As House Democrats ponder the politics of impeaching Donald J. Trump, they are weighing the possible outcomes. An impeachment inquiry could weaken the president before next year's election and give the White House back to the Democrats, or it could backfire, the way the GOP's effort to oust Bill Clinton did in 1998. But there's a third option: impeachment could succeed. As a senior staffer on the House Judiciary Committee framed the dilemma, "What if we're left with President Pence?"
That scenario has seemed far-fetched until this week. At the moment there don't seem to be enough GOP senators who would vote to convict Trump if the Democratic-controlled House passes articles of impeachment against him. But the president hasn't been able to quash "Ukraine-gate," the scandal that erupted after a White House whistleblower reported that Trump pressed Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for dirt on Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Releasing the transcript of the call, which the White House apparently believed was exculpatory, only intensified the pressure. A recent Fox News poll showed a majority 51 percent now want Trump impeached and removed from office. That was the first major poll showing a majority in favor of Trump's ouster.

Laughable.
“Are they forgetting that there is a presidential election in 12 months. The American people are going to make a decision.Congress is not going to do anything between now and then.”
That’s exactly why the dems are in a big rush and pushing the hearings forward. They want Trump impeached by Congress (they know they won’t get the Senate vote ) to increase the possibility of a win by dems next year. The worse they can make Trump look between now & then, the better chance they have of people not voting for Trump in 2020.
Agree totally, 8 yrs of Trump, then of Pence. All that is left is old geezers and no brains youngsters like the Squad who will be middle age.
So these imbeciles are finally thinking their foolishness all the way through?
Sarah Sanders 2024!
There are no Donald Trumps out there.
Yep, well, except for all of us. We are Donald Trump and he is us. That’s what is driving the Left crazy.
If Trump truly thought impeachment and removal from office were probable, he should set the stage. Put Pence in some chi-chi cabinet position, and the appoint Sarah Palin as VP. Talk about exploding heads!
“Im not 100% sold on Pence, as I really dont know the real nuts and bolts of the guy “
I’ve felt a bit the same way since the beginning. The only thing that settles me down is that he seems to be a true Christian, not just a professing Christian. If so, the path he’s taken with Trump is the path a true Christian would take even without Trump. Then I don’t worry so much.
Pence was ESSENTIAL to Trump winning, especially with evangelicals. It helped prove him to that community. Like H.W. Buwh with Reagan, Pence has been more than 100% supportive of Trump.
He isn’t going anywhere, and he won’t be president, cuz Trump will win and serve out a full second term, and then the age of traditional pols is over.
My guess is we’ll see a Kanye/The Rock match in 2024. And, yes, I’m serious.
I share you distrust.
He was part of the Boehner, Cantor, Ryan leadership in the House.
They are having wet dreams because they have decided Pence could be browbeaten into “compliance”...I have some misgivings about how tough he would be but everything he’s said and done indicates he may be more “polite” but still work toward much of President Trump’s goals.
Maybe we will find out in 2024 if someone else doesn’t “rise from the ashes”.
Love it. Describes the radical Left.
>I see this as a harbinger of what’s going to happen next year in all of America.<
Please Lord let it be so.
Oh, shut up.
Exactly.
If their plan is to get rid of Pence, after Trump...in steps the wickedwitchofthewest.
It’s laughable.
Coffee’s for closers.
(Arrec Bardwin is an a$$hole galore, but he DID deserve a supporting actor Oscar for that bit)
LOL, when you think about it, that scene really wasn’t all that much of a stretch for Alec, he was basically playing himself.
