Michael Mann, a climatologist at Penn State University, is the creator of the "hockey stick graph" that appears to show global temperatures taking a noticeable swing upward in the era when humanity has been burning fossil fuels and dumping CO2 into the atmosphere. The graph's methodology and accuracy have been and continue to be hotly contested, but Mann has taken the tack of suing two of his most prominent critics for defamation or libel. One case, against Mark Steyn, is called by Steyn likely to end up in the Supreme Court. But another case, against Dr. Tim Ball, was decided by the Supreme Court of British Columbia, with Mann's case thrown out, and him ordered to pay the defendant's legal costs, no doubt a tidy sum of money. News first broke in Wattsupwiththat, via an email Ball sent to Anthony Watts. Later, Principia-Scientific offered extensive details, including much background on the hockey stick.
The Canadian court issued it's [sic] final ruling in favor of the Dismissal motion that was filed in May 2019 by Dr Tim Ball's libel lawyers.
Not only did the court grant Ball's application for dismissal of the nine-year, multi-million dollar lawsuit, it also took the additional step of awarding full legal costs to Ball. A detailed public statement from the world-renowned skeptical climatologist is expected in due course.
This extraordinary outcome is expected to trigger severe legal repercussions for Dr Mann in the U.S. and may prove fatal to climate science claims that modern temperatures are "unprecedented." (snip)

And the supporters on his web page are congratulating him on his 'going after' (the climate skeptic) Ball- when he lost his ass...
HE EVEN HAS TO PAY COURT COSTS ($9 million) because he refused to show his data.
HE STARTED THE SUIT and then refused to show the data to support his claim.

There was a video someone made and put on youtube called ‘hide the decline.’ The tune by old Tommy James song. The video showed Michael hiding the evidence that showed a decline in some data that refuted his claims.
He sued and made them take it down. He’s not real fond of actual facts.

In 2012 the University of Virginia spent about a million dollars keeping Mann’s data secret.

The fact that this con-man is still drawing a salary at Penn State should horrify any alumnus of that institution.

I went to Mann’s Facebook page and posted this article and asked him why didn’t he just show the data.

Modern science requires a talented team of lawyers and politicians to make it work. It must be because we’ve become so advanced.
Now Mann’s defamation vs Steyn case in DC needs to have a court date.

It’s pretty much an admission his work is fraudulent.
Therefore his claims are a fraud.
Therefore most of climate science is a fraud. (Mann is a prominent member of the IPCC, working group 1)
You’re a tad late. This is old news. Suggest you read Anthony Watts’ blog, WUWT. More recently, Mann has been lashing out at Steve McIntyre, who may have a libel case against that scam artist.
His R2 was likely somewhere less than 0.50, so he massaged to boost it.
