At a ceremony held last month at Houston’s City Hall, Mayor Sylvester Turner could hardly contain his enthusiasm about a proposed 240-mile bullet train between the city and North Texas.
Joining Turner at the event were representatives of Texas Central Partners LLC, the private company that plans to build a high-speed rail system based on Japan’s Shinkansen N700 technology to transport passengers from Houston to North Texas in about 90 minutes.
The Aug. 17 ceremony was organized to sign a joint agreement in which the city pledged its support for the project, which is estimated to cost between $10 billion and $15 billion. Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), Texas Central pledged to work with Houston officials on economic development, jobs creation and traveler-friendly connections between the future train station and the greater Houston region.

Hopefully, Bullethead Turner will be tossed out of the Mayor’s office in the upcoming election. Houston can and must do better.
North Texans have no desire to go to Huston, and we’d much rather the crazies in Huston and Austin stay in those places.
When you overthrow the Constitution, and establish a Socialist utopia, a bullet train from Nowhere to Erehwon will be more practical.

It is true that in a socialist dystopia, they will be able to use slave labor, which will decrease the cost of the train.
I worry about the environmental costs of such a train. So much wildlife already gets killed by vehicles going less than 80 mph, how much wildlife is destroyed by ultrafast trains?
Airplanes go fast, mostly high above the areas where you find wildlife.
Passenger trains remain a 19th Century solution to 21st Century problems.
If Japan had had a problem with that you’d have heard about it by now.
Then why do so many Asian and European countries have them? Are they living in the 19th Century?
It makes some sense for short-ish hauls in very densely populated areas. We have very little of that.

Personally, I think the project is worth doing. And, if will truly be able to make the 240 mile trip in 90 minutes the net travel time will be less than flying. But, sadly, the same group that killed The I-35 Trans Texas project will kill this as well. The problem will be getting right of way and imminent domain issues cleared. Due to Texas’ history and ranching -farming culture it has some of the strongest property right laws in the country.
First , land and population density . Japan no land and little parking
Second , the govt makes it hard to afford a car with permits , parking , and licensing fees and cost of fuel . its intentional. Germans love to drive but
the govt makes so hard only the wealthy can afford.
Our globalist elites are planning that here .

The use of "North Texas" points to the North Texas Council Of Governments pushing this worthless train.
This is the same unelected gov agency that gave up Super Bowl XLV in North Texas,Texas back in '11.

You beat me to it! My home of record is Arlington. I don’t know anyone in the DFW Metroplex that wants to go visit Houston. It’s like a third world country, although Dallas isn’t far behind.

I cannot read Japanese, nor do I try to follow their news or culture. The bullet trains could be killing off massive quantities of wildlife, and if the Japanese government and media sweep it under the rug the way ours sweep the devastation of windmill farms, I would not expect to hear anything. I do speak French, but I have not searched for data on the French bullet train, which also has the potential to devastate wildlife. Those trains go so fast that by the time you realize one is coming, it has already hit you if you are on the tracks.
