The impeachment inquiry of U.S. President Donald Trump could turn into a big risk for House Democrats, especially if it gets drawn out, experts told CNBC.
Democrats should try to go through the process as quickly as possible, as it could spark sympathy for Trump if it drags on, said Larry Sabato, founder and director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the U.S. House of Representatives will begin an official impeachment inquiry into Trump over his efforts to push Ukraine to investigate a potential 2020 election rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.
"The Democrats will be wise to act expeditiously. Ideally they would have this wrapped up before the voting begins," Sabato said, referring to primaries in February ahead of the general election.

Why do you not want people to know whether their representative is going to do what he/she was sent to D.C. to do? Watching this Congress over the past 3 years is the most sickening of my long life and I have lived through watching inept, unbelievably unscrupulous people serve in our government many, many times, but, this group takes the prize.

Bingo...my first thought, too. It’s been going on from Day 1. Realistically, from way before he was elected, but he couldn’t be impeached before the inauguration. We are at the four and maybe five year point is this disgusting, sordid and unending political outrage by the Democrats.
To late for the Democrats they just got Trump reelected.
Yep. I’m now 68 and this is BY FAR the worst I’ve ever observed in my lifetime. The D’s are so rabid, so corrupt, so anti-American that there is nothing they won’t do to get Trump.
Plus they have pissed off every republican and most independent voters in the country
