I lived in Kansas from the time I started elementary school until 4th grade. Northeast Kansas at that. Winters aren't even in the same league as Wyoming. I doubt that Oklahoma is much different.
FWIW, I even drove that diagonal US highway northeast bound during our honeymoon in early March 1984. Spent the night in Guymon. My wife snapped a picture of me outdoors in a t-shirt which is still in our wedding album. I don't think that is exactly the banana belt of Oklahoma, is it?
