If I could do either of those things, I would. I’m more character design, story boarding, that kind of stuff. When I was graduating high school, the industry was so overcrowded that it would have been unwise to spend money on those classes.

90k-140k is kind of market these days for most any development job, SQL Developer, Web, Sitecore, etc. I specialized and make 3 times that now and am in business for myself. I do what millennials find boring and will out work and out hustle any of them at the ripe old age of 53. Gaming development is so 2005, Indians will do it for 60k. Don’t do what a guy with fake degree in Hyderabad will do for 1/2 the money.

I like both the Aassassin’s Creed and Far Cry lines.

That said, I suspect they are looking for “certain” coders that fit a non-asian, non-white, non-straight, non-male profile.

Every game from Ubisoft starts with a disclaimer that it was built by people of every gender, race, etc. If you are a POC Unicorn gendered sub-saharan pygmy, you are in. If you are a talented coder you probably fit a non-desirable profile and you’ll have a much tougher time getting a job with them.

programmers and coders

Is there a difference? Are programmers old people and coders young people?

Coders are usually the newbies as in you can tell them to write a routine and they do. Programmers are the more experienced guys who put it all together. Then there are guys like me ;). I'm a principle application developer. I figure out the entire process start to finish and write all the tough bits the coders and programmers can't do and solve an actual business problem.
