I can't find anything on it yet other than it registered initially at 3.9 apparently at USGS. Will probably see some updates around later.
Wife, and I were having lunch at 1:20 P.M. when we heard "THE SOUND" we hear often before the quake hits us. "THE SOUND" the quake makes traveling towards us, and then the inevitable WHAM, JUMP, SHAKE, and the "THE SOUND" as the quake moves on to surprise more unsuspecting luncheoneers across its path in Southern California.
No damage. Just shook us up in the middle of egg salad sandwiches, and potato salad.
Glad it wasn't worse.
I was in Oceanside Ca. for the Northridge earthquake... the initial shock
woke me up... got a flashlight and checked the stucco.... made some coffee, turned on the TV... watching KTLA.... they have a helicopter heading to the site... the helo is flying over Big Bear filming... I see and they report, dust coming up through the trees... the reporter speculated that a chimney from a house must have collapsed... then our cat, that was resting comfortably... jumps up and starts running around crazily.... 20 seconds laterI felt the first after shock shake the house. I never heard “the sound” but the cat knew something was coming.
Lived in southern CA until the mid 70’s I know exactly what you mean. I grew up looking at things around the house that might be an earthquake tell. (That was just the small ones...)
USGS: Each year the southern California area has about 10,000 earthquakes. Most of them are so small that they are not felt. Only several hundred are greater than magnitude 3.0, and only about 15-20 are greater than magnitude 4.0. If there is a large earthquake, however, the aftershock sequence will produce many more earthquakes of all magnitudes for many months.

“THE SOUND” (Low rumbling) is something those of us in the valleys, and mountainous areas can hear when earthquakes are approaching. We never heard “THE SOUND” when we lived in the city. We have been here 32 years. We are accustomed to “THE SOUND” prior to being hit by such earthquakes.
Yes, animals do sense the earthquakes coming. Ours display confusion just prior to earthquakes in general, and the horse gets a crazy look in his eye that means stay the ‘H’ out of the corral, or get tromped, cause I are scared.

You are confusing the sound of worms with the sound of traveling earthquake vibrations.

I live in Cypress, and I did not feel a thing.
Friday, or maybe it was Saturday my wife asked me if I had felt the earthquake. I had not. She experienced an earthquake I had not is not exceptional. Happens all the time around here. If I’m outside working, and she’s inside she has a better chance of feeling a quake than I.
In today’s case we were both inside enjoying lunch when we heard it coming, and then it hit, and moved on.
I remember in Long Beach years ago we had one ‘H’ of a quake hit, early 1987. I was in the center of the house where mostly the walls were non supporting, and my wife was in the kitchen where all walls were supporting walls. BIG difference in how the quake was felt. Very fluid in the center of the house, and stable at either end. Stuff flew all over the place in the center of the house, but hardly felt a thing in the kitchen.

The very next day there was an earthquake... epicenter...right down the street from the insurance office(within a block or 2).
Thought about calling them back...but , nah...

I used to go there many years ago. I’m only about 180 miles north. I should check it out again.
