The inner handle underwent the carbonization process, the hammerhead was constructed with iron purity, and this is only possible with modern-day technology, according to research by the Metallurgical Institute of Columbia.

Actually there are a number of similar anomalies i.e. modern items in places they should not be, such as a watch found in an archaeological site and several objects encased in rock like this hammer. Some, like the watch are definitely not so old as the surroundings because the clock system would be different were it really that old but there is no evidence for any logical explanation. Science has not necessarily explained so much as had seemed settled and accepted. Consider the changes in archaeology over the last half century.

Yes, they are annealed. No, they are not zero carbon.

“There is no record of man’s existence past 6000 years ago. Written history is no older than 5000 years.”

I guess you don’t look for such obvious and readily available information.

I found one just like that only it has ‘Pat.Pend.’ stamped into it.

Reminds me of a joke during the Cold War when Russia was claiming to have invented just about everything: Some guy said their greatest inventor was named US RegPatOff.

Sorry Code Toad. You’re on my “No Fly Zone” list labeled as “unreasonable and can’t be reasoned with”. IMO, you’re a bad-faith poster and commentor and I’m not interested in pursuing any discussion with you.

There’s an old joke about that. A guy advertises a talking dog for sale for $25.

A man sees the ad and rushes to the address, a trailer park, to find the owner, and asks to talk to the dog. The owner points a thumb out back. The man goes out to the back and sees a dog lying under a shade tree, and says, “So, I hear you are a talking dog.”

“That’s right,” says the dog, “Pull up a folding chair and let’s get to know each other.”

“How did you learn to talk?” asked the man.

“It just came natural,” said the dog. My first owner used newspapers to train me, and I taught myself to read. After awhile, I started having some chats with him. He was ex-military, and had some great stories!. But when I was about two years old he sold me to the CIA. They used me for a spy, because I could go into a drug den or a human trafficking operation and just hang around, you know, wag the tail and lie down, and they never suspected I was reporting everything they said back to my handler.”

“I am astounded!” said the man. “But what are you doing here in this trailer park, after such a career?”

“Well, you know, I got tired of it all after awhile. Found a nice bitch and settled down out in the woods, but she got run over by a car. I was pretty desolate, when this guy here came across me. I sat next to him when he was fishing and started a conversation, but he kept telling me to shut up, and it kind of became a running joke. Long story short, he just lets me read the papers and lie around, so it’s good, I guess, but I’m getting bored and would like to be useful again. I’m thinking FBI, or at least working for a private investigator.”

“Listen, buddy,” said the man. “I think I can help your career. Let me go talk to your owner and let’s get you out of here!”

“Fine with me. You seem like a stand-up guy,” replied the dog.

The man went back inside the trailer and said, “I’d like to buy the dog. He is amazing! Here’s the $25. But, may I ask, uh, why are you selling him for so little?”

“I’m glad to get rid of him,” said the owner. “Everything out of his mouth is a lie.”

Agreed, electrolytic iron is the only way to get this type of purity without some carbon and nickel. Natural native Telluric Iron from Basalt is close, but still has some of both and can only be found it one place in Greenland and one place in Germany.

But I have two of these exact hammers from the 1800s, they were a common design used for rock drilling by hand. I lean toward the theory it was encased somehow and the casing hardened like concrete.

Actually in that place at that time, it was the Clovis Culture which made exquisite stone tools like fluted arrow and spear points. They were not “grunting cave men”, but more like the pre-Columbian Plains Indians.

Yep, sure is. See the face on the left end? It is shaped like the face of a hand rock drill. Probably used for starting shallow holes to then insert the longer drills into as the nest step. I have many of the antique four point drills of differning lengths with that same four point chisel cross face.
