To the editor: Even detractors admit Trump has kept promises to Ohio
The Toledo Blade ^ | September 7, 2019 | Rev. Darrell Scott

Even the national media are beginning to admit what the people of Ohio have known for years: President Trump is keeping his campaign promises.

The news outlet Axios that has a reputation for its criticism of the Trump Administration, reported that “One of President Trump’s underappreciated re-election assets is something all politicians promise but few do: He has largely done precisely what he promised his base he would do.”

The report is a blow to the mainstream media narrative that this administration has been a failure, even as the economy grew, unemployment fell, and wages rose faster than they have in a decade. In Ohio, the Trump economic boom has led to the creation of more than 120,000 jobs since January, 2017.

President Trump is fulfilling campaign promises made to African-Americans. We now have record low unemployment numbers and the creation of Opportunity Zones to stimulate revitalization of inner cities through public-private partnerships. He has fought the 1994 Clinton crime bill that disproportionately incarcerated African-Americans through a prison reform bill that aims to reduce the recidivism rate of African-Americans, and encourages businesses to employ former inmates.

He pledged to appoint constitutional originalists to the Supreme Court, and he did so — twice.

I will vote to reelect Trump, but only because he is the most “Conservative” candidate who has a chance to win.

Trump has not kept the campaign promises that are most important to me...

Immigration - except for reducing the number of UN Refugees, Trump's other immigration numbers look just like the Bush and Obama immigration numbers.

Bottom Line - 80% of new immigrant citizens vote for the Democratic Party. When you get out voted in a democracy, nothing else matters.

Government Spending and Debt - in spite of high employment and record high tax collections, Trump's two budgets will ring up $1.8 trillion in new debt.

Bottom Line - when you are broke, nothing else matters.

Oh, and thanks in advance to everyone who wants to explain to me that Trump is completely helpless against the MSM, the Deep State, federal judges, and the Political Left.

Okay. Then please explain how *you* would get past these hurdles, while staying within Constitutional constraints.

Perfect is the enemy of good. And by insisting on perfection, you hand victory to the left. That’s how they’ve achieved the influence they have—too many so-called conservatives have withheld support from non-perfect candidates.

Meanwhile, take a real good look at what Kasich’s Medicaid expansion has done and will do to Ohio’s budget.

If it weren’t for Trump’s economy, Ohio would be paying the piper far sooner.

He doesn’t have to explain...he just complains.

That “gentleman” is a consummate loser!

Immigration: Don’t ignore deportations, much less “catch and release” and the Herculean effort to get an effective Border Wall going as it is now.

Budgets: Calling what we ended up with “Trump’s Budgets” implies he wrote them. His proposed budgets had actual cuts. Democrats Senate filibuster in his first year and their majority in the House the second are how the budgets ended up the way they did. Yes, he signed them, but he doesn’t “own” them.

You forgot to mention RINOs...I believe President Trump's biggest roadblock has been RINOs, especially Paul Ryan.

The issue is not perfection - it is preservation.

What do you plan to do when Florida, Texas, and Arizona start voting Democrat in presidential elections?

Every president has enormous executive powers on immigration, granted by Congress, in the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.

I would use those powers to their maximum extent, I would openly defy every federal injunction, and I would dare Congress to impeach me.

If you - and Trump - don’t understand that massive immigration is an existential political threat to the USA, I don’t know what else to say to you.

Thank you for explaining that Trump is completely helpless on immigration and federal spending.

It would have been nice if Trump had mentioned that BEFORE he asked us to elect him President.

Re: “You forgot to mention RINOs”

True - I did forget.

However, without the RINOs, a truly Conservative Republican Party cannot win a majority in the Senate or the House.

The issue is not whether President Trump or I understand the threat of immigration. I am certain that the President understand it as well as I do, and I understand the issue very well. The issue is that the President is not a dictator, and this particular president has has a lot of opposition from all sides. Despite the forces arrayed against him and his pro-America agenda, he has accomplished a lot.

Thank you for explaining that Trump is completely helpless on immigration and federal spending.

It would have been nice if Trump had mentioned that BEFORE he asked us to elect him President.

I can’t think of anyone else who could have achieved as much as Trump. He is one of the strongest Republicans we have had, and stands his ground against the opposition. The economy is doing great, illegal invasions are down, Mexico is cooperating to slow the flow of invaders, the wall is being built, he is standing up to China and North Korea—and doing all of this in the face of media and DemocRAT opposition that would have any other Republican caving and apologizing for being so harsh.

Seriously, you come across as a Debbie Downer who can only find stuff to criticize, and can’t see the good in anything.

By the way, if you think you can do better, why don’t *you* run?

Re: Seriously, you come across as a Debbie Downer

No. I come across as a Cassandra.

I have been making highly accurate prophecies about massive immigration and massive budget deficits since 2000 at Free Republic - but I am never believed.

Re: By the way, if you think you can do better, why don’t you run?

Because bona fide Conservatives like me cannot win the GOP presidential nomination or win a national election.

On the other hand, if bona fide Conservatives do not hold Trump's feet to the political fire, who will?

Certainly not you.

Thank you for explaining that you are nothing but a provocateur.

It would have been nice to know that before I wasted 30 seconds on you.

And another 15 right now.

Trump was a centrist Democrat for 50 years before he became a Republican in 2015.

If Conservatives do not hold Trump’s feet to the political fire, who will?

“Thank you for explaining that Trump is completely helpless on immigration and federal spending.”

That is not an example of holding feet to fire. Neither Trump’s nor mine.

Darn, another 15 seconds wasted.
