A new strategy on climate: Try to outlast Trump (only 11.43 years left)
Politico ^ | 8/30/19 | ZACK COLMAN

World leaders and major companies intent on dealing with climate change have settled on a strategy for handling President Donald Trump: snub him.

When Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency this week proposed withdrawing Obama-era rules to limit emissions of methane from oil and gas wells or pipelines, major oil companies said they wanted the rules to remain. Some of the world’s largest automakers are ignoring the administration’s attempt to do away with rising fuel efficiency mandates. And when Trump skipped a climate change session at the G-7 summit last weekend, other world leaders said they were better off without him.

"We know his position … and at the G-7 we did not have [an] objective to convince him to return,” French President Emmanuel Macron said of Trump after hosting this week's summit.

Trump’s scorn for collective action to address global environmental consequences could have a lasting impact, freeing other leaders like Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro to pursue their own nationalist policies. But the world leaders who are still committed to addressing climate change are now looking beyond Trump’s tenure.

“They’re just trying to wait it out and hope he’s not there next year,” said Alden Meyer, the director of strategy and policy with the Union of Concerned Scientists, who has participated in international climate meetings since 1991.

Propaganda waits for no one, Ald. See ya in 2024.

Just this week, a definitive report came out confirming that there has been no warming in the United States since 2005. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t destroy our economy and regress to Stone Age status to address the non-problem.

The underground church of Gaia, oppressed by the ruthless Team Trump, shall nevertheless persevere until at last they overcome.

The magical and mystical and mythical Gaia will come riding out of the sunrise and overthrow this usurper, and once more reclaim the Earth.

(Oh, hell, do i HAVE to include the < /sarcasm > tag EVERY TIME?)

They are all playing a waiting game hoping Trump isn’t re-elected.

I can’t wait to hear the collective thud come election day.

If XYZ car company wants to make card board cars that get 80 MPG then they are free to do so just don’t have the government force other companies to do so.

Methinks that if the science-illiterates (e.g. progressives) really get control, it will signal the start of an active and violent reaction. Folks will simply not permit a regression to a 19th century life style.

No, the Rat states have pointed a gun at their heads. They are going to require the cars adhere to the nearly impossible standards if they want to sell cars in their states. Since they cannot make two different versions we will be forced to drive $50,000 golf carts. And oh by the way When you discover the car you just bought/leased shuts its motor off every time you stop be sure to thank the Rats.

Let the Euros and Asians foul their air and/or bankrupt their citizenry, but by and large we've cleaned up our back yard. Their citizens will demand it, spelled BREXIT.

I’m seeing this more and more. What an absolute joke. Was in a bit of traffic and listened as the car next to me must have started 5 times. A metaphor for insane liberal policies.

“...major oil companies said they wanted the rules to remain.”

How surprising that the majors would want to keep rules they can afford but smaller competitors can’t. Isn’t the purpose of government to rig the game so contributors win?

Interesting scenario. What prevents a NYer from buying out of state ? There will be a market for safer cars, and that demand will be met by someone.

They’re going to have a long wait, through 4 more years of Trump, Sr., and 8 years of another Trump, according to the prophecy. No distinction whether it will be Eric or Don, Jr. Keep your powder dry. There will be 4 more new appointments to the Supremes, too. And greater prosperity will flow down upon the United States of America, beyond imagination. THAT’s the Prophecy. Amen.

Any strategy on China, a country that emits more carbon dioxide than the U.S. and the EU combined? Yeah, didn’t think so.

I don't know about other manufacturers, but I know that if you request it BMW will reprogram the start/stop feature to default to "off". From the factory it always defaults to "on" when the car is started regardless of the setting when the car was last used.

There isn't a whole lot of data on the long-term effects of start/stop yet, but I rather strongly suspect it isn't all that great for the engine.

If you look at all the cars and trucks and everything else that runs on petroleum on the streets and freeways all over this country and world, you’ve got to stop and think how absurd these watermelons are. Then you add in all of the industries and services connected to this mode of transportation and it is basically an ecological economy. In otherwords, one can’t live without the other. Then you realize that EVERYTHING is transported and delivered by trucks, vans, buses, cars and lets not forget the humble little motorcycle. To think that you can change this industry so that you can lower the temperature of the planet one degree is ludicrous. This monumental hoax is truly an evil attempt at destroying people’s health, prosperity, comfort and literally our lives. It has to be defeated.
