The peaches are just about at the peak of tree-ripe perfection in the Inland Northwest right now, but are starting to fade already. The very best peaches on earth!
Fresh huckleberries were all over several weeks ago...$10 for a zip-loc baggie of them. There’s nothing like fresh huckleberries on your morning cereal or in yogurt.
The blackberries have been exceptional this year...plump and exquisite flavor.
The Kootenai County Farmer’s Market is the best ever. You get to meet the actual people growing and processing the food unlike so many fake Farmer’s Markets where salespeople abound and nary a farmer is to be seen. The market is in a small woods of tall ponderosa pine trees and has fantastic music every Saturday morning. My favorite spot there is the “Bunny Holding” area where little tots to very elderly seniors can sit on a lawn chair and hold a baby or young bunny for a while. There’s a look of contentment on everybody sitting there holding a bunny.
The panzanella and bread look fabulous...
