Job seekers have the upper hand in todays labor market so much so that employers are beginning to be more flexible in order to bring on new talent.
In the last year, nearly 40% of companies have eased their job requirements in order to fill vacant roles, according to a new survey from Adecco USA. The recruiting and staffing firm for temporary workers asked over 500 hiring managers about what efforts theyre using to widen their candidate pools. About half of respondents represented employers in manufacturing, industrial, call center or transportation fields, while the remaining respondents came from all other industries.
What requirements are employers willing to budge on most? According to the survey, hiring managers are more likely to give leeway when it comes to previous related experience. Instead, 78% of companies will consider applicants with transferable skills that could lend to train-ability in the new job, rather than them having to fit the description exactly.

Potentially great news because the “required experience” has been ABSURD for 10 years.
A hard worker with a positive can-do attitude who can be depended upon will always have a leg up over people with a better resume.
I've been a hiring manager for 20+ years and many of my best employees never technically met the "requirements" stated on the job posting.
By default, all our job postings require a bachelors degree and 5+ years of related experience. But that's just a filter to attract the best candidates. When somebody comes in with the attributes stated above, they are already on the short list.

Best to catch kids before they go in for college indoctrination
Heard in ad on the radio today from a well-known car dealer that is looking for apprentices to learn car repair, body repair and sales. They were saying if you complete the apprenticeship program you will make $70-75K a year.
Not good news for the Democrats and the NeverTrumper Repukes. It doesn’t look like we’re headed to a recession anytime soon. The employers have a glut of job openings and not enough people to fill them. It’s a job seeker’s market for the first time in a long time. It certainly wasn’t this way during The One’s eight years in office.
So this means the padded, faked H1-B resumes are no longer required?

Yep, Intelligence tests, signs of go-get-em attitude and OJT work out well in my experience.
When my daughter was newly out of college, she showed me a job posting. It had a long list of requirements. I told my daughter that it seemed like a good job, but that I wasn't sure she was qualified. She said, "Well, I already have an interview scheduled." She got the job and her boss later told me that she was the best employee he ever had. Not surprising. My daughter said as soon as the boss left the office, the other employees stopped working and goofed off. My daughter never told on them, but she kept working. She ended got a lot of bonuses but ended up quitting because she thought her boss was unethical.

Several years ago my son and I went to the Jr College and talked to the head of the auto mechanics program.
I asked about job prospects. He said he had people calling him almost every day looking for someone, anyone.

Would have loved to make that kind of money right off the street when I was a youngin’
What if the applicants are Trump positive?
I spoke w/ one of my gnomes last night and they can't compete w/ the likes of Burger King @ $13.50/ hr to start and a $250 signing bonus. $14 to $15 to start w/ some Pre-Training/Pre-Apprentice Training is not out of ordinary at this moment.
You made me hungry for a Whopper.
The test I took for the job now asked about IT terms and concepts that I had never heard of in some instances.
However I apparently guessed very well and made an 84 somehow.
I got through the interview and afterwards figured I was half of what he was looking for.
A few days later I was hired as a contractor for a trial period and a few months full time. Best paying job in my life.
I only took six classes in computer repair in the 90s and the only active cert of what few I had is a vintage A+.
Going on 7 years, 2nd in command now, fair sized private office, and as long as things run OK, I don’t hear from my higher overseas bosses much.
That being said, we had a layoff last year that got everyone with one exception that had manager in their title. The next step for me someday would have been that grade. We went to a small hill to dead flat.
When some more legacy things are gone this year such as Citrix and more of the cloud takes over, I can see me in the crosshairs.
There are three people where I am. The sister site overseas runs on two. It’s always been the two locations who have had the lowest incidents and tickets.
Putting on my pointy haired boss cap, another cut of the middle isn’t too far fetched.
I’m keeping my eyes on stuff. Lately I am getting besieged by recruiters for low paying contract jobs for the state. I’ve been a state employee. I don’t see me going back unless full time and something I can live on. It depends on the agency too.
As some other things calm down, I can get back on the certification horse since people seem to care again in some areas.
I’d like to take auto mechanics or welding at night just to learn or relearn.
Maybe next year.
“The skills for many jobs can be easily taught, but it’s almost impossible to change someone’s attitude”
Yep one employee with a bad attitude or negativity can destroy a business or team of employees in record time. Seen it.
Notice the lack of reference to age groups?
Certain this is only applying to kids, not anyone over about forty-five!
I’m currently looking for a decent job, 64 YOA, and not born with five years experience in the jobs available locally.
That five year rule does a very good job of eliminating a LOT of people from consideration who would easily handle the job, but only if given the chance.
To break in to those trades it seems you have to inherit or glad-hand your way in, probably through a Union parent.
Mine is a Right To Work state, but the unions still have a pretty tight grip on all the decent paying jobs.
So far as attitude and go-get, that’s impossible to show when the first level of rejection is determined by some computer filtering all applications.
All around here businesses have signs up “NOW HIRING”. But, no one is taking those jobs. The stinking government is simply giving out too much free money for too long of a time frame. I thought there were time periods on being unemployed, but apparently there isn’t. People just keep getting unemployment benefits here in Alabama and we have a less than 4% unemployment rate right now!! Unbelievable that so many jobs are available and these dead beats won’t work because they get as much or more free money than the job would pay, thus no incentives to get out and go to work. Stinking deadbeats are from cradle to grave unemployed and taking free tax payer money. Simply Pi$$e$ you off. But, the government isn’t going to change the rules because they want them votes!!!
I have a job where I have to go to many schools in Montgomery County Maryland and interact with their support staff (custodial, etc.)
I kid you not: one year of doing this I’ve not met a single white person. The entire workforce is MAJOR Hispanic with a few Blacks sprinkled in for appearance.
Just remember that these are the jobs that AMERICANS won’t do.
