We lived in Cherry Hill when I was a surgery intern at Cooper. IIRC when people said the were going “down to the shore” the left out “to the”. It was just down shore. “We’re going down shore, wanna come?”

You missed a barely-audible but essential syllable. The proper expression is, "downashore." To break it up into phonetic Philly/SJersey-accent units, daown nuh shuoor.

As someone who grew up “on da stoop” (sitting outside on the front step/s of the row home)...it is most definately, “downashore”.
