Vanity: Your thoughts on the Post Trump America
none | today | me

Posted on 08/06/2019 5:52:22 PM PDT by chrisser

Hello fellow FReepers. Don't post much these days but I lurk a lot. Haven't seen a thread on this topic - if I've missed it, then a link would be appreciated and/or I'll ask the mods to delete this.

Like many of you, I'm a big fan of the President and all he's accomplished. I hope his second term is even better. Having hope for the (near) future is a pleasant change from previous administrations.

Sadly, Trump is just one man, and he has formidable and powerful forces stacked against him. I have no doubt he will continue to surprise us, but at the end of next year, or at the end of the next five years, we'll see the end of the Trump era.

I've been pondering what Post Trump America is going to look like and frankly, the more I think about it, the more it fills me with dread.

I'm in my early 50s and facing the certain future of my wits and my strength fading just as we reach a time that I think may be a very dangerous one, at least for those of us who fall into the "normals" category - straight, white, traditional, rational and conservative.

We have a winner..

Interesting question that has a depressing answer. Because we are a nation of 330 million, generalizing works. The answer, politics will return to the ‘slow nudging’ toward socialism and/or globalism. Main reason: thousands of powerful forces want globalism while one powerful man with millions of supporters wants a strong fair country. I base this on history: No republican at any level will fight for anything. Voters are passive aggressive, all talk no consequences. Democrats and their voters (sheeple) will bring a gun to a knife fight. The last 3 yrs. have shown what fighting back looks like and thus exposed how dirty the deep state/MSM/DNC/activists will get. No republican has ever fought back. It also has shown that even when patriots have someone fighting for them (Trump) they still sit on their butt instead of organizing demonstrations etc. No republican would have made it one week under the pressure Trump has endured every day for 3 yrs. So, after Trump serves another term, a rather moderate democrat will be elected and the republicans will compromise creating more debt and poison pill legislation will be dumped on our heads. Antifa will move back to mommy’s basement since soros no longer needs them. America will hit the snooze button again for 30 yrs. while globalism cripples the working class in this country. To prevent this, to get ‘another Trump’ so to speak, one must believe that their presidency would be worth the onslaught. Right now, no sane person would bother. Its a one man fight and the opposition will do anything and everything to destroy your finances, legacy, character, future, family, and even freedom.

I anticipate joining a Red militia at some point as all able-bodied men per our Constitution if fighting begins but only if I see leaders stepping up for the challenge.

I will also try to convince people to pursue a peaceful divorce and that the suffering of a civil war will be brutal. However, once the shooting starts, I will fight as best I can and contribute blood, sweat, tears, money, food, etc. just as Americans did in 1861.

What else can you do?

God, I hope you are wrong. But, if I saw dead bodies floating down the Missouri River it would not surprise me.

God there is such white-hot hate on the Left. I have no solutions on how you reverse the precipice they have forced the country to.

Politics is run by those who show up. The unhinged left shows up. The right not so much.

Between 2016 and 2020, four more years’ worth of young commies educated by public school teachers, “liberated” mothers and drug addicted peers will have reached voting age.

Politics is downstream from the culture, we are in the process of losing the culture, in all probability the culture is already lost, hence, the Orwellian picture of America presented by so many posters in this thread.

I have no idea what is to come because I anticipate that which by definition cannot be anticipated- a black swan event. Who would have predicted that the assassination of an Archduke in the Balkans would lead to the destruction of four empires?

I have no idea of what is to come because I cannot anticipate the next technology which will set the world on its head. I know only that new waves of technology are about to break upon us and how we manage, or fail to manage, this world changing new stuff will determine our fates for good or ill.

If we are downstream from culture, we are equally downstream from technology.

But we are also downstream from first principles, in the welter of change coming from technology and ideologies which culture is likely to cough up, there will be a few men who prove themselves patriots to principles and a few penitents who understand the real meaning of the biblical phrase "fear of God."

We built a shining city on the hill with as much.

Move to a solid Red state, buy a lot of land, grow vegetables and raise animals and hopefully the leftists don’t pull a locust-type invasion with property confiscation.
_________________________________________________
1) Can you name a solid red state? I think we now have blue islands, at least, in every state and some traditionally red states actually elect RINOs.

2)In my area (SW WI), we were reliably traditional, regardless of party, prior to around 1987. An influx of Back To the Land types in the ‘70s (of which we were two)resulted in a branch of a well-known new age school and the establishment of what grew (with government loans) into the largest organic dairy co-op in the country, both attracting progs. Now, the older members of this cadre are aging out. They are telling real estate agents they will not sell to hunters or conventional farmers. Some are putting additional caveats on who they will sell to, such as only *artists*. These owners have large acreage.

3) a recently hot real estate market has seen nearly all the desirable smaller acreages/smaller homes bought up, so even if someone has sold a large acreage or working farm, they cannot buy locally if they want to downsize.

4) the millennials want to live in town, which has changed to another blue island in a red county. They control the schools and the hospital.

WI went blue in 2018. If they hold the state in 2020, property taxes will rise and we all know the resultant other legislation that we will face. (We did manage to elect a conservative State Supreme Court judge in 2019, so there is hope). We still hold 1/2 the State legislature, but that could change.

The current climate: people are split into rigid groups of *locals/old timers* and *prog newcomers* bolstering the progs already here. Conservatives keep their heads down and intelligently, their mouths shut. Progs will not patronize business/services that they disagree with, as we all know.

You don’t need lots of land to raise vegetables, but you need at least some labor. Smaller family groups may find this difficult, as younger progs do not work these sorts of jobs. A few head of various livestock is possible, but commercial livestock operations face scrutiny, at the least.

On the plus side: come out to the country with a trade. The newcomers can’t do much for themselves and the older conservatives are also in need of tradesmen. Something as simple as the ability to plow snow/blade steep gravel drives or cut grass on fallow fields would be a viable business. We have great neighbors who do both.

I believe there are few options in the future. Demographics are destiny. I’m old. May not live to see the worst, but I expect to see the transition escalate. Most of us elders are disengaging. If you are socially-inclined, living out here might be more lonely than expected.

Ok, thanks. I think I see what you are saying. We cannot have a French Revolution if the sans coulottes have plenty of bread and circuses.

However you only obviate that particular characterization of, or type of social collapse. Can you comment on other possible paths to the tragedy of losing our country and constitution of course assuming or granting for the sake of argument that there is no possibility of seeing those starving mobs?

IMHO FWIW we will have a currency collapse and fight and lose another war by negotiating a face saving peace treaty. The bill of rights will exist only as a meaningless document, a shell of words that no longer protects anyone. The point of no return has already been passed long ago, and our discussion is an academic exercise.

I’ve actually posted here that Trump will not be president forever, and when he’s gone, there will be hell to pay. I suspect that our civil war may go hotter. In fact, one could argue that the Dayton shooter was a temporary “hot” outbreak of our cold civil war.

Actually, the answer is in my tag line. We go to Act II

As long as the current conditions exist, I don’t think there will be any sort of sustained unrest. If the economy crashes or some terrible natural disaster occurs, of course the conditions change. But at least so far, there has never been a civil war or conflict with the conditions that exist currently in the US. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just that it hasn’t happened so far, and it’s pretty hard for me to imagine.

I think the people who care about our culture and the nation, from either side, vastly overestimate the number of people who care as much as they do. This is probably an effect of social media and the 24 hour news cycle.

Just look at the eligible voter turnout. Voting is a pretty low bar for caring about these things, voting is easy. The number of people who choose not to vote have outnumbered the turnout of either party for presidential elections for 100+ years. For state and local elections they dwarf the turnout for both parties combined. There are huge numbers of people who don’t think things are that bad, at least enough to deign to vote about it one way or the other. I think we see more people voting before anyone chooses the hardship and disruption that will come from participating in some sort of widespread civil unrest.

A post-Trump Republican president will be subject to the same lies and name-calling. He just won’t fight back as effectively.
