Here are several lightning strikes I recorded in Broward County, Florida on August 4, 2019 between the hours of 2 and 3 PM. The thunderstorm was about 10 miles to the south. I repeated each lightning strike in the video and then slowed it down to a quarter speed.
And when I click on the YouTube, up pops an ad for Bernie for POTUS...
Hey, what can I tell you? I don’t pick the ads. Anyway, promoting Bernie also helps Trump. So in the end it’s a win.
Living in the lightening capital of the world (near Orlando) can be interesting. Everyone should have home surgers to protect their entire house from lightening. This and hurricane are the worst thing about living in Florida. Otherwise, perfect!!!
Well, and the 115% humidity is a minus. LOL!
We lived in Cocoa/Cocoa Beach for 24 years so we know. We usually classified a day by how many shirt changes were involved. ;-)
What’s really impressive is lightning on the high plains, where you can see it moving in at night from 20-30 miles away and then feel the static charge and smell the ozone after a strike. Just do so from a position of safety and don’t be or be near the highest object within a quarter mile.

I well remember flying in South Texas “around” thunderstorms. The tops on these storms 50,000 feet plus. I have seen lightning bolts reach out and strike the ground 5 or 6 miles away from the storm.
