HILLSBOROUGH, NJ For the third time in less than 24 hours, United States military aircraft forced a small single-engine plane to land at Central New Jersey Airport Saturday morning after it violated the airspace security zone in place for President Donald Trumps weekend visit to his golf club in Bedminister.
Two Air Force F-16 fighter jets and a Coast Guard helicopter were scrambled by the North American Aerospace Defense Command when the plane was detected on radarng. Hillsborough police were called to the airport, located at 1034 Millstone River Road.
The same procedure was followed on Friday night in two separate incidents at 7:30 p.m. and again at 8 p.m., involving two different private planes, which both violated the Temporary Flight Restriction zone designated for each time Trump visits New Jersey. Sign Up for E-News
Once the F-16s established contact with the pilots, the planes left the TFR without further incident. The NAADC had issued a VIP Movement Notification to local airports and pilots with flight restrictions from Friday at 5 p.m. to Sunday at 5:45 p.m.

What are the consequences? Will those pilots lose their licenses?
How does an F-16 escort a small plane without stalling?
I think that’s what the helo is for.
Im thinking the helicopter that went to the scene was the pull that piece of crap over unit. The F16s were the you dont well splash you. Zero. Pair. IMO.
“What are the consequences? Will those pilots lose their licenses?”
I doubt it. Most VFR pilots flying locally don’t get a briefing before flying and would be unaware of a temporary flight restriction.
Thanks, I was wondering how that worked.

Flying into VIP TFR is a BIG deal. It is the responsibility of the Pilot to know what restrictions are in effect, Oops doesnt cut it.
It could easily lead to an enforcement action or suspension, at the very least it will be an anal exam extraordinaire by the Feds.
Probing the defenses.
“Most VFR pilots flying locally dont get a briefing”
True, but with mobile apps for flying, including Garmin to Foreflight, there is no reason not to know about TFRs.
You send two of them and they constantly orbit the targeted aircraft.
True. Most VFR pilots don't even check NOTAMS. It's do the walk around, start her up, taxi, make a radio call to a non-existent tower, and go.
It would seem to me that it would be a regular occurrence in that area also. I’d think pilots in an area like that would be a little more accustomed to checking in. Clueless in Podunkia is one thing but here would raise some eyebrows. Especially three times in a shot period.
I wouldn’t use the word most. I flew out of Bakersfield. One guy I met was part of a small group of pilots that basically screwed around in the air. Like anything there are people with varying levels of competence and more importantly varying levels of respect for the risks in flying. Even under part 135 there are squirrels. It depends more on personality than anything.
My pilot for years specifically brought it up to me about TFR’s on several occasions when I asked. His advise was that if he knew the Prez was in Texas he would make extra effort to check. But, if he’s in DC and we are flying from Austin to South Padre Island then we don’t make any special effort.
To your point, and to be fair, the answer in general may not be most. It is my experience with pilots who are not IFR rated, and even some who are. With any activity, there are always those who act irresponsibly, be it boating, driving, or flying. But I suppose “most” is an unfair characterization.
