To the editor: I write as a refugee from Hitler who, at age 6, fled Vienna with her family, on March 12, 1938, the day of Hitlers annexation of Austria, so as to avoid being taken to a concentration camp. We lost everything but at least we were alive. (Im Jewish and I dont say this lightly: Never again is right now in America, Opinion, July 26)
The parallel today would be this: If right now, on this very day, op-ed article writer David Ulins doorbell rang and he, a citizen of the United States, would suddenly be arrested for no reason whatsoever except that the government found out he was Jewish and sent the police to pick him up and [take] him to a concentration camp, where he would eventually be killed. Or if someone came to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs (D-N.Y.) home and arrested her because she happened to be Latina.
Events like these actually took place they were not hypotheticals. The situation at the border is entirely different: People who are not citizens and were warned not to make the trip have been detained. That doesnt justify the conditions at the detention centers, but Ocasio-Cortezs analogy is simply absurd.
She obviously has no idea of the history of Nazi Germany, but Ulin should know better.

“That doesnt justify the conditions at the detention centers. “ Sigh.
As is often said....
“American Concentration Camps. Only in America do you have people struggling to get in them”.
I have been to sores places on vacation.
I meant I have been to s=worse places on vacation. sigh (Glad it is Friday)
Our barracks in Korea were worse than the detention centers.
And they can leave anytime they like by agreeing to GO HOME
Exactly. The Jews were rounded up and put in concentration camps. Now we are supposed to believe that people are flocking to the US border from all over world traveling on perilous journeys and turning themselves in to border guards knowing they will be placed into concentration camps. It doesnt pass the laugh test.
The dims are just a bit off on their historical timeline.
Democrat President FDR rounded up Japanese Americans and put them in concentration camps.
Oh yes it does. We've been bending over backwards and jumping through hoops to accommodate these invaders. They're getting a lot better treatment than they would get anywhere else in the world. We owe them nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm all for turning them back and telling all of them to get out and stay out. Enough is enough.
I have been to sores places on vacation.
Even those held no comparison to NAZI concentration camps.
Those Americans were NOT starved, tortured, made to work until they perished, used a lab animals for horrible medical tests, gassed, etc.!
The kids went to school, there were hobby classes for adults and there was a reason WHY FDR isolated them. The same thing was done to some recent German immigrants too, BTW.
Facts matter; LEARN SOME!
I would bet your basic training was worse also.
No detainees are doing kitchen police or digging holes.
Wow Kudos to LA Time for publishing!!!
True. They are far too nice for these criminal aliens. They should be no better than what we expect our troops to put up with in the far away places we send them to.
Tents, latrines, minimal running water, and no air conditioning should be the norm.
Actually, I wish those dolts calling the detention centers concentration camps would take action on that, instead of just complaining in front of cameras. They should go to all of those places where the illegal aliens originate and warn the people there that if they decide to enter the US illegally, we will be waiting to throw them into concentration camps, from where they will never escape or be released. Who knows, if they get the word, they may just decide to stay where they are.
Plus, the idiot leftists will be out of our country.
We don’t kill them we feed them which is why they don’t go home.
I didn’t equate the two.
FDR rounded up the Japanese and isolated them in camps.
