Does one need a milling machine for the 80% or will a drill press or even a hand held electric drill work?

I've seen them made using a drill press and jigs, but some claim difficulty in connecting the holes to make slots. Your mileage may vary. Some are touting plunge routers with end-mill bits.

There are at least five ways to finish an 80% receiver.

A drill press will work, and is a whole lot easier, But you do not necessarily need one, even for a 0% receiver forging. I've done it.

However, at circa $40, an AAO 80% lower saves a lot of time. AAO Mfg.com
