The debate over reparations for descendants of slaves catapulted from the campaign trail to Congress on Wednesday with an impassioned plea from actor Danny Glover and others for lawmakers to address compensation for America's blighted heritage of racism and Jim Crow laws.
Glover, who told a House Judiciary panel that his great-grandfather was enslaved, called a national reparations policy "a moral, democratic and economic imperative."
It was Congress' first hearing in a decade on the topic and comes amid a growing discussion in the Democratic Party on reparations and sets up a potential standoff with Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opposes the idea....

Never
Never, never, NEVER!!!!
Not one friggin penny of my money will go to greedy, ungrateful, racist black hands.
NEVER!!!
Yeah, my n-word! We finna gets paid and s—t dawg! Put some rimz on my Hummer!
What perchance makes this "democratic", other than the electorate trying to vote themselves money from the public treasury?
Reparations? They are not deserved for anyone alive in the US today. But, if the government insists on paying out money that is not deserved, it should only come from the DemonRat party directly and solely as they are the party of slavery, KKK, Jim Crowe, Segregation, Discrimination, and Racism.
Why EVER?!
The whole notion is extremely stupid and unreasonable.
Anyone who doesn’t like it here, can go to the African country of their choice at any time.
I say go for it....
I must admit my bad self would love to see how it would go down...Give out a pocket full of money and see how long it lasted. What a sight that would be.
Nope.
I never owned slaves and the only cotton they ever picked was a set of towels at Walmart.
They can buzz off.
.
Why not their children?
I want my money back from all the movies I watched that Glover was in. How about a class actionlaw suit?
“We shall overcome” has been replaced by “Give me some money”.
What a stupid question. Because Now != Never.
(And it's "House panel is asked", not "House panel is told")
I believe the government and thus the tax payers tried to atone for slavery through the cdivil war, ending segregation, black voting, federal funds for inner city development and job training, and scholarships, and affirmative action for 50 years. It’s 2019 and time to move on.
When the Japanese/Amer got reparations for the internment camps, my secretary, her husband, and her mother, each got 30,000. They were all in the camps and they were all alive when the reparations were paid. No one who was dead got reparations. and that gap was 50 years or so.
My secretary’s family’s farm in Florin outside Sacramento was worth 1.1 million when the reparations were paid. They got 90,000 total for the three of them. The land was developed with hundreds of homeowners in tract homes.
Why not now? Well idiot. Because the people who would have this money stolen from them and given to people who were never slaves, never owned any slaves. Grow up and “Move On.” Stop being a fraudulent whiner. Hey Danny! How much money do you thieving socialists need anyway?
Still waiting for the Union government to pay us for all the farm critters thestole from us :cows , sheep , goats , chickens , ducks . And a few horses. Left us with nothing. Raided our lader, took all our years of saved up canned food. Broke our fences , burned our barn . F reparations . Blacks have plenty today . Cry me a river . Give um more money and they will get fatter than they are already.
Well, since my kin folks fought for the yanks to help resolve the issue, I vote no. And a thank you would be nice.
