LOL. It was after Yellow Brick Road that I gave up on him too. And that was when most of my friends started getting into him. Sounds like you are at least a year older than me. GYBR came out in ‘73

Exactly.

Look what happened to the Dixie Chicks when they decided not to keep their politics to themselves. They vanished overnight.

It was all downhill after he split up with Taupin.

“The premise that the natural resources of a territory are rightfully the collective property of the population of the territory in which they are found is irrational and idiotic.”

I see no reason to believe that statement as it stands.

I think I made it through “The Fox.” I liked Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Caribou, Rock of the Westies and Blue Moves and still play all of them. Like Roger Waters and many other talented musicians, he is an extremely annoying egomaniac, though.

Well...in the 70s I don’t believe EVERYTHING was POLITICAL...as it seems these days.

".... Well...in the 70s I don’t believe EVERYTHING was POLITICAL...as it seems these days...."

It wasn't but my point is still valid.

I try not to conflate a musician's or an actor's politics with their songs or movies when seeking entertainment that I like.

If I used conservatism as a basis for picking my music or movies, I'd find few choices.

Some things in our society or culture are what they are regardless of what my personal politics is. I try not to confuse the two.

“...It’s possible to like someone’s music and ignore their politics. ...”

Not anymore.

Especially when they want you, your way of life, and traditions and heritage erased.

And how is my listening to a liberal sing a song on the radio going to erase me and my way of life exactly?

You're being hyperbolic.

In the long run new ideals replace old ideals.

But in the short run, I'll be long gone before they catch my ass.

“...You’re being hyperbolic. ...”

No, not really.

That particular character has already made statements to the effect of what he’d like to see done to Christians and others who oppose his lifestyle. And with the money he’s made over the decades, uses it to help elect folks who would gladly carry out those ideas.

You just listening is not the problem. Buying his product and putting money in his pocket is, though (although realistically, by this point, it’s moot).

You are free to listen to whom you choose, watch what movies with actors you choose (DeNiro, Jeff Daniels, Jim Carey, etc - all of whom have expressed absolute psychopathic hatred for Trump and people that voted for him).

But that doesn’t change what those people think of you. They laugh all the way to the bank...

“Peaceful coexistence” is only possible with people who understand “live and let live”.

They do not.

You are entirely correct, brother.

I don't live my life in a closed closet with blinders on. It's a big world out there and sometimes I will run into books or music or movies or other products that are made by liberals that are good, entertaining and reliable products.

If I never saw a Steven Spielberg movie just because he's a liberal, I would have missed out on many of the most popular, entertaining films of my lifetime.

Or if I never read a book by Stephen King, who is a big liberal, I would have missed out on many great, classic horror stories.

And if I snubbed Willie Nelson, who is also a big liberal, just because of his political leanings, I would have not gotten to enjoy all of his country western hits over the decades that I love.

If I held to your beliefs of not doing business with liberals, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this comment on an iMac Apple computer, a company with a liberal bent. Or have use of my iPhone. Lots of technology nowadays is produced by liberals.

If I didn't do business with liberals, some of my best customers in my business would not have enriched my wealth over the years. I don't limit my customs to just conservatives. That's not how business is done.

I've purchased lots of products over the years that were not made in the US. It's almost impossible to not have something in your home or business that wasn't "Made in China", who is our adversary.

My sister is a liberal and doesn't like Trump. But she's not out to kill me or my family or my lifestyle or my future. In return, I disagree with her but I don't browbeat her over it or start fights over her political naiveté. It is what it is.

So yes, I do think you are generalizing and overdramatizing the repercussions of liberals not liking Trump or me as a supporter. Because it is not just a one way street for them. They don't get free rein to hate me while I sit here without the desire or ability to push back.

I dislike liberals as much a the next guy but the world is not monochrome when it comes to a variety of products or services or ideas. An intelligent, well-adjusted adult can handle others' opinions or ideas, no matter how foreign they are to their own beliefs.

And for those that can't, they scaremonger the rest of us.

...

He has a liberal mouth, but he’s lived most of his life as a Conservative. He married young, had children young, worked hard and refused welfare when he was poor.
