R.I.P. iTunes.
Apple is phasing out its content download and streaming service, Bloomberg reports. CEO Tim Cook will unveil a spread of new features geared to move the companys focus away from the iPhone starting Monday at the tech giants Worldwide Developers Conference.

Going forward, three new desktop apps will be unveiled Music, TV and Podcasts to house and manage the data. This will match the format already used on iPhones and iPads. The move to unify desktop/laptop apps and mobile apps continues. Sounds like a wise move. I hate apps with grossly different UIs and features on desktop and mobile....a unified app strategy across devices.
If you want on or off the Apple/Mac/iOS Ping List, Freepmail me.
I am sure they will come up with another way to part you from your money. I happily give them money every month.
They are spending billions on content.
...move the companys focus away from the iPhone “
??? To what? Isn’t that 80% of their business?
Spotify is currently the streaming king.
You paid for a year of Apple Music, I’m guessing. They won’t leave you holding the bag.
Good. It was always annoying when something was available only on iTunes and so you had to use a special app for it.
Nope. Look at the Apple apps iPhoto and Aperture. Dead and sent to the bit bucket in the sky.
Plus they totally disrespect the user. Imagine building a library and carefully creating genres - not just "rock", "jazz", "classical", "country", but true genres such as Baroque, Italian Baroque, Renaissance, Bebop, Swing, Prog, Rockabilly, etc., and as soon as you download the mandated iTunes update (because you can't "shop" anymore with the old version) it blows away all your library settings. Suddenly "Into The Woods is on five different albums, and twenty different artists, some under "Soundtracks", and others under "Pop".
Apple blows sh*t up and I hate their f***ing guts. I type this from a Macbook Pro which I will not be replacing - and I'm replacing soon - with any other Mac product. Same for phone. Done!
Jerks!
If a user did that, all those digital files are on his or her machine in mp3 format. They are not lost. And the files you bought from the Apple Store are also on his or her machine, unlocked and without DRM.
Don't get so overwrought. The business people at Apple are not as stupid as you make them out to be.
Yes, the people at Apple ARE that f*****g stupid. They are douchebags. Straight up. And, to reiterate, stupid.
Apple is dead to me.
Good riddance! iTunes has ruined more phones and is the reason I have an Android
They are just moving to a subscription based Apple Music platform where everything is available 24/7.
I wonder what happens to the audio books available through it.
Dude, find a radio station you like!
Its free.
So much is out there, why anyone pays to download music is beyond me.
Im lucky, grew up with great radio like WABC AM, WPLJ, WLIR, WNEW.
Very Groovy Stuff now on WFUV.
Great stream over the net too.
Just wait and see what they really do. It sounds like they are just splitting it up into Music, TV and podcasts.
This actually sounds more logical to me than to have all three of these jumbled together. I bet there will be a way to migrate all of the stuff you own. Knowing Apple, it will probably do it automatically.
Spotify. Love it.
