LITTLE ROCK (KATV) Arkansas' state network of PBS member stations did not air the season premiere of "Arthur" over concerns that it showed a same-sex marriage.
Arkansas Educational Television Network spokeswoman Julie Thomas said in a statement that the network made the decision after previewing the episode in April. The episode had been scheduled to air May 13.
"While ideally parents watch our programming with their children and discuss it with them afterwards, the reality is that many children, some of them younger than age four, watch when a parent is not in the room," the statement says. "In realizing that many parents may not have been aware of the topics of the episode beforehand, we made the decision not to air it."

Pre pubescent people cannot process the concept of sex. To introduce them to an unnatural diversion of the concept is damaging
We never viewed PBS kids programming. There was no reason to trust them to instill values- which is what kids are picking up at that stage
Most any shows can be viewed via on demand or via the network AP on a smart tv or a device.
TV is archaic technology. Just sayin
It’s still something, and besides, the network AP would still ban it online most likely. It’s still a victory, however minor.
The USA has stripped its children of “childhood” . . . just work in the public schools for a couple of days and see how messed up they are . . . and then there is Sunday School . . .even those children’s view of what is right, wrong, true, false is thwarted.
As a kid, I couldn’t stand PBS kid dare.
I got more out if Perry Mason reruns and Star Blazers as a 70s kid.
Funny since I worked in public broadcasting for about a decade later.
Care to clarify the bit about Sunday School? I was pretty sure that taught the bible and morals. I’d hate to hear that throwing that out of the window.
I blocked every PBS channel on my xfinity box
Network APPs I dont believe are blocked at a state line.
But it should be kept from children somehow. I think parent intervention in what children watch is the first thing. I blocked leftist crap when my kids were little. First thing I did was cancel HBO who had kids shows vilifying hunting and guns. PBS wasnt cancelable. But I spent many hours watching kids shows with my kids. When some stupid leftist remark was on it I let them know it was wrong and why it was wrong.
Maybe not, but on the other hand, I know episodes that get banned generally are banned even online (the Passimian episode of Pokémon Sun and Moon is a good example of this. When it got banned, it wasn’t even viewable online).
And agreed, we should have more control over what our children watch.
It will show up in YouTube etc
” This should give a clear signal to PBS that we are NOT going to tolerate their pushing that agenda onto four year olds.”
PBS should be able to air those episodes. Just not with taxpayer funding. Same goes for NPR. Rats complain they want government out of their lives until it affects them, then they demand government get involved.
We have to fix that.
How many billions have Sesame Street products brought in for the owners of the license and yet we are told that it will disapppear without public assistance.
Big Bird is a fibber.
I was referring to the children that attend. I think Sunday School has been watered down somewhat. . . especially the songs with wild and crazy movements done with a DVD. The kids have no clue for the most part what they are singing about. (I have asked them) I just forwarded this article to church leaders/teachers in our Association. I mentioned it was for adults as well. https://kidsministry.lifeway.com/2018/07/27/the-abcs-of-salvation-is-not-the-gospel/
I blocked al jazeera FIRST.
Agreed there, and at least without taxpayer elements, we won’t be held responsible by being forced to pay for that garbage.
Of course, what you’re proposing is tricky. Voltaire advocated for much of the same thing, as did his fellow Philosophes, and... well, that led to the French Revolution and Reign of Terror.
C’mon, Tennessee! Don’t let Alabama and Arkansas show you up.
A great thing about this is that it’s signaling to patriots the direction their moving vans should head.
I was listening to the news on the radio earlier this morning. The station is a CBS affiliate. And this ‘Arthur’ story came up.
They played a clip of an Alabama woman who disagreed with the decision not to air the episode. The woman explained why she disagreed: Children need to learn early on to accept different lifestyles. Blah, blah, blah.
Now here’s the funny thing. They didn’t also play a clip of someone who agreed with the decision. No balance. That’s how just how journalism (or should I say, media propaganda) rolls today.
Big bird is on HBO now.
