Why would a riderless horse want to keep competing?
Bodexpress was so full of joy. It was clear he was having fun, doing what he does. Hes only 3. Hell, he ran around the track one more time before they caught him!

Horses do like to run. I use to ride a retired steeplechaser. When we rode the trails from Williamson County north toward Nashville and approached the Iroquois Steeplechase grounds, the old 19 year-old grew hyper. He would get wild and excited just to be on the steeplechase track again. But on any ground Colonel Dee liked to stretch out and gain speed.

Horses are fundamentally herd animals, Bodexpress just kept running with the herd even without his jockey. And of course, thoroughbred race horses are bred to run, and they love to run.

I heard he did two full loops. And would have taken 3 if they hadn’t finally corralled him. Frisky little critter. Feelin’ his oats!
