Trump sending ‘500 migrants a month’ to Florida Democratic strongholds

President Donald Trump‘s plans to send potentially hundreds of undocumented immigrants each month to the Democratic strongholds of Broward and Palm Beach counties ignited a torrent of criticism from local Florida officials who called the move political.

“The blatant politics, sending them to the two most Democratic Counties in the state of Florida, is ridiculous,” said state Sen. Gary Farmer, a Democrat who represents portions of Broward County. “You can’t make this stuff up.”

Broward County officials described the plans Thursday in a press release, saying the Trump administration plans to release asylum seekers caught along the southern U.S. border into the county. A month earlier, Trump floated the idea of shipping undocumented immigrants to sanctuary cities that limit their cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Neither Palm Beach nor Broward counties fit that description, but politically they're enemy territory for Trump and Republicans.

“That is so typically Trump,” Farmer said. “When the facts don’t fit the narrative, you slightly adjust the narrative.”

Broward County state Rep. Evan Jenne, opposed the move but said the county will do what it can to help those sent its way.

“He has been threatening this for a while, and I’m sure his voters will think it’s a great idea,” said Jenne (D-Dania Beach). “We will do what we can to help them, I’m sure with no help from the federal government.”

Jenne called the Trump policy a form of “fiscal punishment,” a sentiment shared by other regional officials.

A statement from Broward County said Trump “has threatened to send people who illegally cross the border to communities that are considered immigrant friendly.”

“This is a humanitarian crisis. We will do everything possible to help these people,” Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen, a Democrat, said in the statement.

Yes, my dad grew up a couple of blocks from where Trump did, I learned a lot about New Yorkers growing up. They either love you like a brother or hate your guts, no middle ground.

President Trump is starting to get the right idea. I’ve been thinking 500 a day to DC but working out the details before putting up a GoFundMe is a chore. Airlines? Buses? Amtrak? Lease or non refundable tickets? Details matter.

New Mexico just dumped 500 on Denver. And Denver is crying about it.

4500 arrests a day, almost twice the population of Palo Alto a month, so, where are they supposed to go then? Is it just a CA, AZ, NM, TX problem? Most of the migrants seem to have target cities in mind already, maybe those being sent are those that claim relatives in those areas?

Funny how the love for illegals goes away when THEY have to pay for them.

Just where should he send them?!? To a place that doesn’t want them, or to a place that provides sanctuary for them? What the hell are they complaining about?

aren’t they being sent to Mexico? That’s where they belong.

According to our own regulations, only Mexicans can be sent back to Mexico. Stupid regulations, but our own fault.

Both Levin and Mudd thought these relocations endangered Florida electorally and therefore was ominous.

I wonder how, the Dems own that electoral Congressional district. I think Trump just wanted the mayors reactions on the record, they were hilarious.

I wonder how . . .

Levin and Mudd were worried that the Dems might somehow get these relocated immigrants registered to vote, perhaps in time for next year’s election(s).

With the margin of victory already razor-thin in the Sunshine state for the GOP in recent presidential contests, that factor might tip the balance and turn Florida blue.

Other things to keep in mind:
A court recently ordered that Florida print ballots in both English and Spanish.

Also, with the most conservative part of Florida (the Panhandle) still devastated from Hurricane Michael, who knows how adversely the GOP turnout will be affected next year.

For starters, I didn’t say I was in favor of any of the things you say “we’re supposed to applaud.” Having cleared that up, do you have any suggestions as to how Trump can do more than he has or do it differently that would work?
