Country gets closer to pop all the time.
The only current country singer I can think of
is Blake Shelton. Hate to see it.
LOL, I like this one.

I blame Garth Brooks.
“She got run over by a damned old train.”
Thank!
Thats my favorite Tom Petty tune. I didnt mention it before because it doesnt have the same drunk & disorderly theme as Rebels. LOL.
I was raised in Amarillo and that’s the
only song I ever heard that mentions it.
I was raised country and never heard of a single one of those. LOL
The albums he did with Mudcrutch were awesome.
Just To See You Smile by Tim McGraw
Flyover States by Jason Aldean (I listened to that one about 25 times on Election Night in 2016)
True. And before that, it was in 1944 when Bob Wills snuck a drum set onto the stage of the Grand Old Opry. It was the first time drums were ever played on the Opry, and Wills was never invited back to the Opry again.
But the dam was broken, and country moved closer to rock and roll.
“Flyover States” was my favorite song of 2010.
What used to be pop turned into angry rap and soulless dance music.
Some of those are obscure, but others were hits. "I Want to Be With You Always" was the number one song on the country-western charts the day I was born.
"Oakie Boogie" was recorded by a number of artists including Ted Heath & His Orchestra over in England. I find it amusing to hear an English act performing a dance tune that celebrates Oklahoma folkways.
The country song I remember hearing was “Room Full of Roses.”
Naturally I imagined a bedroom stuffed with flowers. LOL
This was a huge hit in Germany in late 1971-early 1972, and I imagine it scored in the UK as well, since that's where the singer hails from. However, it made no noise at all in the US. After its chart run, I had to wait until Youtube came along before I could hear it again.
Is This the Way to Amarillo?--Tony Christie
Lubbock is a rival of Amarillo’s, so it was funny
to hear “Happiness is Lubbock in my rear view mirror.”
A family friend had been a roommate of Mac Davis in college.
