A Springfield, PA elementary school principal will stop saying God Bless America after leading students in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Sabold Elementary School principal Peter Briggs would say the phrase each morning after students said the pledge.
At least one parent complained to the Freedom for Religion Foundation, claiming the language violated the U.S. Constitution
WLSAM reports: The district says it will end the practice, but says students are not prohibited from saying the words if they so choose. The foundation says elementary students shouldnt be coerced into affirming Gods name every morning.
10 minutes from me...
DelCo people are going to snap.
And people wonder why kids are growing up and becoming school shooters..look at what they are being taught in the school
I’m sure God won’t mind.
If you don’t want his blessing, then so be it.
Blessing withheld.
(At some point you may wish to reconsider...)
—but if not, that’s ok with Him...
Throwing God out of our schools has worked out so well (/s).
the principal got scared of one liberal asshole?
I thought the phrase was added in the 50s.
Right next to Swarthmore, home of Swarthmore College where last week a large part of the student body occupied the college president’s office demanding that two fraternities be thrown off campus as they were supposedly threats to the safety and well-being of all -the cancer spreads......
“I thought the phrase was added in the 50s.”
You are correct in that “under God” was added sometime around then, this article seems to say that this particular school ended the pledge with “God bless America”.
In my school days (albeit long ago now) we never ended with “God bless America”, the pledge ended at the end of the pledge, no more, no less.
If a principal would like to say “God bless America” after the students have recited the pledge I say go for it. If they do not, there really is no problem, as the pledge of allegiance does not have that phrase in it.
This particular instance, is much to do about nothing. Now taken in the wider context of removing God from everything and anything, well that’s a different story.
I tried to argue with twitter rejects that taking God out of schools completely ruined them. I was bashed big time. Go figure.
Delco is not the same Delco anymore.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
“God Bless America” two things they hate in that sentence.
I --- Me; an individual; a committee of one.PLEDGE --- Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.
ALLEGIANCE --- My love and my devotion.
TO THE FLAG --- Our standard; Old Glory; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.
UNITED --- That means that we have all come together.
STATES --- Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.
AND TO THE REPUBLIC --- Republic -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
FOR WHICH IT STANDS
ONE NATION --- One Nation so blessed by God..
[ "Under God" was added in 1954 ]
INDIVISIBLE --- Incapable of being divided.
WITH LIBERTY --- Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.
AND JUSTICE --- The principle, or qualities, of dealing fairly with others.
FOR ALL --- For All, which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, Under God indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too?

(Sigh...)
Neither is Diehard.
Somewhere along the line, people have changed freedom of religion to freedom from religion.
The irony is that by removing God from schools, all you have done is instituted a state sancioned religion. The founders understood that man has a right to follow the beliefs of their father, including none at all.
What seems to be forgotten is you do not have the right to remove the beliefs of their father from others.
Those who would dictate a right of another, do not understand, and will never understand, true freedom.
I object to this vehemently! No news organizaion will print the name of the complainant or of the attorneys responsible so we can reply to the complaint. The Springfield Township school board has no fortitude to enter into a fight in court but the Springfield people do. This is happening all over the country and unless people start to stand up, we are lost. Stand up people.
