Why would the public ever be granted access to a last revealing the name of children who had been raped? That’s part of the list.
And, as the article admits, many of the cases were suspected cases. With no first hand accuser it is hard to investigate.

Personally I think they all started pouring in at the May 2013 anouncment.
It took 62 years to get to 5,000 cases and only four years to get to almost 3,000 more.

First of all, this is no defense of the BSA, but the initial reports I heard on this (I could be wrong) was that many if not all of the persons in their ‘perversion files’ were removed from the scouts when it was learned of the deeds that were done. If that were the case, I would expect them to keep a list of the evil doers in the event the names popped up elsewhere after their dismissal.
If such is the case, I for one cannot fault them for having a list. the next natural question would be “Why not turn their names over to the authorities immediately?”
Good Question. As I saw one comment stating this issue had came up in the past, and the person was quietly dismissed form the post, and the issue was dropped at that point. Perhaps in each case, the PARENTS and other scout leaders decided to handle it in their own way - privately. They may not have been the BSA way, but maybe the local troop’s way. Local troop may have then reported the name to the BSA. But just making the name public back them without evidence that the BSA themselves had could have ruled libel or slander (especially if local folks didn’t really want to talk about it).
And finally, the numbers mentioned by @TLI - which is what I expected. Do you folks remember all the heat the BSA was taking when they refused to allow Sodomites as scout leaders? Now think about them having these lists back then. I remember them fighting hard to preserve what they were. They receive lawsuits, threats, boycotts, etc. It is now obvious the BSA KNEW what they were fighting against.
Then the enemy decided to infiltrate the leadership, and make the compromise: “We will accept gays, but no gay scouts”. See how long that lasted? See how the number of alleged abuses shot up? Clearly, there was a correlation. Now, young girls can/will be the next target(s). Once the BSA lost control of their own values, this was expected. After all, many of the Good Men of the BSA left when the BSA left them. I remember that well. This is the end result. The BSA’s principles were sound. It was the people at the top who corrupted it. A sad chapter in American History.
Fortunately, there are other Christian based organizations that help turn young boys into men - the right way.

I’m not understanding... Is this the number of scumbags who have been proven to be perverts and convicted? Or, is it the number that been accused and then everyone just yawned? Is Joe Biden’s name on the list?
