This assumes two things. One is that the democrats will not vote in lockstep in 2020. They will. The second thing is that the Republicans will not screw up this opportunity - they are masters of self-sabotage. Perhaps a strong personality as Trump can take hold of the helm and guide it to victory in 2020 but it will be very hard. And with McCain Romney backstabbing him all the way through the election cycle it will be more difficult.

The battles, already joined, are crucial to the outcome. Ultimately, it may depend on the ingenuity of those of us, who truly appreciate and revere the achievements of the 1780s in a new America, if that heritage is to endure!
