Japan's new emperor has yet to ascend the throne, but he already has his first foreign guest lined up: United States President Donald Trump.
Current Emperor Akihito, 85, will step down at the end of this month, becoming the first Japanese emperor to abdicate in modern history. He will be replaced by his 59-year-old son, Crown Prince Naruhito.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will pay a state visit to Japan in late May, becoming Naruhito's first official foreign guest, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a press release Friday.
Trump's trip will be the first state visit of a foreign leader in what will be known as Japan's Reiwa era.
Japan's eras mark who the emperor is and form the basis for the Japanese calendar system.
Akihito presided over the Heisei era, which will end on April 30, the day he steps down.

Take THAT China.
I thank God for President Trump!
Ping.
I got within a few feet of Naruhito-san in 2005 when he visited the World Expo which was being held outside of Nagoya the same day I happened to be there. I pray he is like his father, and unlike his grandfather.
Trump can tell the difference between an ally (Japan) and a country which has nuclear missiles aimed at us (China). The globalist stooges can not.
Arigato gozaimasu!
The Japanese are among our top strategic line of defense against the Red Chinese.
I say arm them fully.

Hear, hear!!
Sad that he will be treated so much better in Japan than he is in his own country.
Japan has been an astoundingly good ally in so many ways.
They have bet on us, supported us, and invested in us over and over at the expense of other possibilities.
Especially since I can’t see Trump pulling a Bush41 and puke in the emperor’s or even the PM’s lap.
Yes. And....They pay a lot more for housing and hosting US troops here than given credit for as well. Yes, a very good ally.
You can bet if they are a friend of America (while Trump is at the helm), the visiting drive-by US press will find **some** way somehoweven if they have to lieto turn Japan into an enemy during this trip, or otherwise make up some crap about POTUS creating some kind of insensitive, ignorant social and cultural faux pas in Japan like they did last time over the fish feeding.
Chances are they have the story in Tokyo dummied up right now and wait like highwaymen to spring it at the opportune time.
I’ve lived in Japan since 1985 so I know first hand how much the Japanese value the US/Japan relationship . Great ally and lover of all that is good about America . God bless Donald Trump !
