My wife looked at and tried a number of 380s and in her opinion (and mine) nothing compared to the sig. Granted it was not under $400. but over the life of a firearm the big expense is ammo, and it is extremely important that the gun is close to perfect for her as possible.
She is extremely particular about her trigger pull. And the p238 was just right.
My experiences with .380 automatics hasn’t been good. All of the ones I have fired at the range jam more than they shoot. That is just one man’s experience.

Yes, I love my little P238.
I like my Walther P22 also but for a completely different reason.
As a trainer it is unsurpassed for showing people how to shoot more complicated weapons. It has all the basic features found on the big Sigs and other military pistols. The .22 LR is good to get people away from the scared of guns attitude as well!!

I can’t believe they left out the Kel-Tec P3AT. I’ve had one with a laser sight for years and comfortably carry it every day. I’ve shot a lot and I can hit with it. Usually find them new for under $300.00.
I have a very early Ruger LCP and although I carry it a lot, its trigger is as described here. It has to have the worst trigger in firearms history. It is, however, just what I need to carry in the Florida heat without printing thru shorts and t-shirt.

Get a P938. It’s barely bigger.
Only ever bought one 380 ACP, Remington model 51. It was a keeper in excellant condition. I eventually found two extra mags. As you can see by my handle the 44 spl is my fave. I carry a 3 in model 24 normally. When i need to go light the 51 is sure sweet and reliable. There are a few still around if your dilligent.
I bought a Beretta M1934 in the 80’s for about $50 but you need Superman’s finger to shoot it ,LOL
