Brady argued in court that Cabelas provided incorrect data to NICS when the buyer checked that she was the actual transferee/buyer of the gun in 2016. A national gun control group was handed a defeat by a Delaware court in a lawsuit over a gun sold to a straw buyer that was later used in a crime.
New Castle County Superior Court Judge Vivian L. Medinilla agreed with big box retailer Cabelas that the lawsuit, brought by the Brady Campaign last year over the sale of a pistol that was later traded by a felon and used in a shooting that killed an area woman, and dismissed the case. Medinilla noted in her ruling that the gun control group, representing the family of slain 19-year-old Keshall KeKe Anderson, did not make their case.
The group had filed suit last year arguing that store employees ignored warning signs of July 2016 illegal straw purchase made by the girlfriend of a long-time criminal, John Kuligowski. The handgun was later traded on the street by Kuligowski and tied to a drive-by shooting that killed Anderson. While Kuligowski went on to receive 27 months in federal prison, Brady went after Cabelas, contending store employees should have known that the felons girlfriend provided a false address on federal paperwork and lied on a statement when she certified that she was the actual purchaser of the gun.
Medinilla pointed out that the federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System greenlit the transfer and police were only later able to identify that she had provided the false address and statement months after the fact. While Kuligowski had driven his girlfriend to the retailer, he remained in the parking lot while she bought the gun.
Cabelas performed a NICS background check, received a proceed response, and otherwise complied with the relevant statutory provisions, said Medinilla, saying her ruling did not prevent Brady from suing Kuligowski, his girlfriend or the persons charged in Andersons death.
Bass Pro owns Cabelas, not Dick’s.
I believe the veterans discount is still in place. As a Bass Pro Shop salesman explained to me, Cabelas offered a 10% veterans discount but Bass Pro Shop only offered 5%. After Bass Pro Shop purchased Cabelas they dropped their discount to 5% also.
Not in Reno, they dropped it entirely. The 10% was nice as it covered the taxes—only used it for the few larger purchase I made from them. They get nothing from me now.
As a another poster said down thread, my wife bought a gun for me as a gift, but we are both legal to own a firearm.
Yep - too shallow pockets...
Bass Pro and Cabela’s both stock and sell “assulat weapons”.
Bass Pro and Cabela’s both offer military discounts.
Bass Pro and Cabela’s both sell firearms to 18 year olds.
I don’t know why you are spreading false information about them. You’re welcome to see them all the same if you wish, but it doesn’t make you look good to be spreading false information. Are you just misinformed, or are you a leftist troll seeking to foment trouble? I’m not accusing, I’m just asking for an explanation for your slanderous false accusations of Bass Pro and Cabela’s.
Dicks didn’t buy them. The person you were replying to is spreading false and malicious information. I don’t know why.
I don’t believe you that they dropped it entirely in Reno. It is a universal policy across all their stores. Perhaps someone was misinformed.
Incorrect. Here’s the link: https://www.cabelas.com/custserv/custserv.jsp?pageName=MilitaryDiscountProgram&WT.tsrc=CRD&WT.mc_id=military
I have generally found better pricing at Academy than Bass Pro and Cabela’s.
The last two times I was in Cabela’s they said they no longer had veteran discount. The one clerk expressed dislike at company changes since they were bought out. I might be wrong on the end result of policy changes at Bass Pro and Cabela’s—maybe they didn’t follow through with some changes. I don’t shop at either much, don’t really care.
No worries. If you go there again, maybe show them their website policies.
Must be an old web. They stopped doing it at our local Cabela’s.
Nice to know. Thanks.
I’ve been using that Sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore - their prices on mags/ammo are quite decent and free delivery on orders over $50. Also Target Ammo (not affiliated with Target stores).
Notice how they never go after the perp!
Sounds like you get your fake news from CNN
