Can a New Law Protect Intellectual Diversity on Campus?
James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal ^ | March 8, 2019 | Jenna A. Robinson

American colleges and universities lean left. Among faculty at leading U.S. universities, Democrats outnumber Republicans by more than 11-to-one. The administration is even more skewed: there, Democrats outnumber Republicans by 12-to-one. Further evidence can be found by examining summer reading choices, non-academic campus programming, commencement speakers, and funding given to student groups.

George R. LaNoue observed in a Martin Center article that this imbalance extends to the conversation on campus. LaNoue is a research professor of political science and research professor of public policy at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. In a study on campus debates, LaNoue found:

Except for wealthy institutions possessing high-status research centers or law schools, sponsoring debates or forums about public policy with different perspectives is not a priority in higher education. Many political issues debated everywhere else in American society are not debated at all, or only rarely, in campus public events. Almost all undergraduates can vote, but few are exposed to diverse viewpoints about the major policies which should inform their franchise.

LaNoue suggested that oversight from policymakers and trustees was necessary to facilitate change by “asking the right questions to top administrators and requiring them to make public reports.”

Now Stanley Kurtz, a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and author of a successful bill to protect free speech on university campuses, has proposed a solution that goes one step further. His new model legislation is entitled The Campus Intellectual Diversity Act. It does a few things, which Kurtz explained recently in National Review.

“Can a New Law Protect Intellectual Diversity on Campus?”

Protect Intellectual Diversity...WTF are they talking about, there hasn’t been any Intellectual Diversity on college campuses since the 1960S...There are still a few Universities out there, but they are in the south and they most definitely have a great football team — My hypothesis is the absence of or how horrible the record of the football team is, is directly proportional to how left/liberal the University is and also how feminine the males are on that campus. But, it’s just a hypothesis.

Can a New Law Protect Intellectual Diversity on Campus?

No.

The entire academic system of Liberal Education is irretrievably dominated by Leftists. It cannot be fixed. These institutions must be defunded and closed.

I agree with that.

I’d like to see this country re-invent Education like the challenge to get to the moon in ten years. With technology and on-line streaming, school choice and home-schooling, people could get all the education they would ever need without ever facing Liberal indoctrination. And the cost would be probably 10% of what it is today.

Leftists start brainwashing children in Kindergarten with their Climate Change agenda and their Two Mommys crap. Everyone knows reprogramming a child begins when they are four and five. Worrying about “diversity” in college is far too late.

As much as I hate to agree with anybody with AAUP, the guy from Academe was right. We can’t trust government to fix anything. They ALWAYS screw it up.

Case in point: OBSESSMENT. Because the government want better education, it micromanages professors with meaningless B.S. rubrics that guarantee “quality” and “assurance of learning.” All it does is employ more Ed.D.s who are process experts and crowds out content experts, fueling the downward spiral into Eduspeak.

Big ED has been completely taken over by leftists.
From Pre-K through college, our schools are now leftist indoctrination centers.

Blow it all up and start over.
In the meantime, homeschool.

Why establish guidelines for student loans that require certification by the colleges that there is diversity of opinion. Already do it for title 9

End the federal college loan guarantees.

The Student debt is now about a trillion dollars which is simply money given to the colleges that will eventually be repaid by taxpayers.

Are you non parents and what not he say homeschool have no idea what it’s like to try to pay the bills with two working parents

what you have to do is send your kid city free school public school and then just keep program them on the nonsense to give and I give them pre-programming and then deprogramming and for the most part it’s not really that bad

Most of the stuff you hear is overblown and the kids are just being given mostly nonsense in terms of it’s all women in there tried to teach pictures instead of real mathematics

Not if it doesn’t effect a change in the faculty and administration, all firmly embedded in PC/Leftist utopia.
