Well, here it is, Super Bowl Sunday. I know a lot of you dont care. Even so, you might care about CNNs ace reporter on all forms of racial/gendered bias (Don the Lemon) grilling of Gladys Knight on why she is being a disloyal black b***h by singing the National Anthem at the start of the game.
Um, because shes a singer and thats what she does?
Little Don came to within a hairs breadth of coming right out and accusing her of being whatever the proper gender-neutral term for house slave is. As always, Ms. Knight was classier by half:
People are going to have their opinions about whatever, and all I can deal with right now is what my heart says, I just want them to know that we have a country thats worth standing up for.
All I can deal with right now is the fact that a major news network believes that an entertainer must justify their decision to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl to anyone let alone a third-rate Fake News outlet.
And mark my words, there will be people on the other side claiming Lemon is racist because he didnt demand the same justification from Alan Levine, the lead singer for Maroon 5, the all-white group providing half time entertainment, or at least what passes as half-time entertainment these days.
Not that others havent demanded an explanation from Levine: Colin Kaepernicks attorney Mark Geragos called him out on Good Morning America, saying that Levines half-time performance was a copout (interesting choice of words):
When you start talking about, Im not a politician; Im just doing the music. Most of the musicians who have any kind of consciousness whatsoever understand whats going on here.
Yes Mr. Geragos, we do know exactly whats going on here. Thats why there will be so many people not watching the Super Bowl today.
For his part, Maroon 5s spokesman did try to explain he wasnt a politician, just a tunesmith simultaneously holding an olive branch out to the NFL kneelers, dealers and appeasers:
He seemed to promise that his show would acknowledge the protests against the NFL, which include national anthem kneelers and Kaepernicks apparent ban from the league for being the initial leader of the kneeling movement.
As if anyone needed another reason not to watch Super Bowl LIII. Well, Im still watching the game. Unfortunately Ill have to switch off the half-time show to prevent indigestion form all the gameday goodies.
Heres my entry to the SB LIII Hall of Fame:
Cheesey Chorizo Caramelized Onion Dip Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups onion, chopped
3 tablespoons butter
1/8 teaspoon thyme
½ chorizo sausage, about 6 ounces
8 ounce package of cream cheese
¼ cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup mozzarella cheese
¼ cup chopped chives or green onions
kosher salt
Instructions:
1. Remove chorizo from casing and cook in a medium skillet over medium high heat for about 10 minutes, chopping with spoon and stirring occasionally. Set aside. If greasy remove excess grease.
2. In another skillet, melt butter over medium heat and add onion. Add thyme, season with kosher salt and lower heat to medium-low and cook onion for about 20 minutes until onions become soft and caramelized.
3. In a medium sized bowl add cream cheese and mayonnaise and mix well until smooth. Add mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, green onions and mix well. Gently fold in chorizo. Pour into a 2 cup baking dish.
4. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degree F for 12-15 minutes or until dip is golden and bubbly. Garnish with additional green onion and serve with baguette slices or tortilla chips.
Even if you are boycotting the game you can still enjoy a Super Bowl spread; just because a bunch of lunkheaded millionaires decided to bite the hand that feeds them doesnt mean you dont have to. So, what youre fixing for game day?
Oh, and one last thought from commenter Bennie Sprouse re. the SB entertainment controversy:
Why would ANYONE have to DEFEND their singing OUR National Anthem? Most of the nitwits who "protest" don't even know WHY - I would say "monkey see - monkey do" but SOME people relate everything to RACE so I won't say that!
But I will.
I drink, and I know things, Im basically not a nice person. Janice the Elder, RIP 2018
Hoping to see everyone over in Janices Corner at one time or another today.

Is the Super Bowl today? Go figure.
Me too. Excellent singer
Starring one of my all-time favorite quarterbacks, Joe Namath.
Today will be time for several hours of watching the Brit TV Archeological dig show “Time Team.” Here is a sample show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9kUAJCsJ-A
And the presenter, Tony Robinson, once played the character Baldric on the BBC “Black Adder” series.
What kind of creep picks on the great Gladys Night?!
A few years ago when my son was an Atlanta fireman, the station got a call to a high rise condo in Buckhead. An elderly man had fallen and his wife and a caregiver weren’t strong enough to lift him up.
The elder man was Bill Mathis, a former Jets teammate of Joe Namath. One of the fireman knew about Mathis’ football career and asked him about playing with Namath.
Mathis was very happy to talk about his playing days and even showed the firemen his Super Bowl III ring.
Amazingly, later in the day, the station got a second call to Mathis’ condo. He had fallen again. The firemen told him he had to start using his walker since his knees were in such bad shape.
Thanks; I had no idea they formed in 1952. I remember them from the mid/late-50s.
I thought Marvin Gaye did “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”? I played his 45rpm so much that I wore it out in 1967, in college.
TCM On-demand TV.
Yes, Marvin Gaye did record “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”:
Three of Gaye’s albums What’s Going On (1971), Let’s Get It On (1973), and Here, My Dear (1978) were ranked by Rolling Stone on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. What’s Going On remains his largest-ranked album, reaching No. 6 on the Rolling Stone list and topped the NME list of the Top 100 Albums of All Time in 1985[137] and was later chosen in 2003 for inclusion by the Library of Congress to its National Recording Registry.[138] In addition, four of his songs “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, “What’s Going On”, “Let’s Get It On” and “Sexual Healing” made it on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

I remember it too. :)
I LOVE onions, especially caramelized onions. I will be making this amazing dip sometime in the future. Thanks!
Thank God for Gladys Knight.
Bless her, dear Lord.
We don’t have to agree on everything, but she has the decency to do this, and not back down.
Poor guy!
Turns out my dermatologist had one of our Baltimore Colts in her repertoire. My husband went to her also and met this man. It wasn’t THAT “Art” (even my Steeler-loving husband would’ve known him anywhere) but “the other” Art, deCarlo. He showed him his ‘58 Championship ring and went on talking about the team. Fun. But not so fun having skin problems!
Yes God bless her! As a side note, I worked security at a Confirmation retreat for 175 or so candidates last weekend up in the SoCal mountains. Our associate pastor is from the Congo (he loves being in the US) and he did confessions and Mass. No social justice or progressive issues did he preach, only Christ’s Gospel. I would love to have about 1,000 more of him in this country. You’ll never see his sermons on the evening news. :)
What’s a “superbowl”???
/s
I was at a super bowl party. About 40 people, very few that really care/watching. I didnt watch a single commercial. But I sure noticed the stereotypical ghetto half time show. Good grief ...awful. You
I thoroughly enjoyed that game.
