PHOENIX - Leading climate scientists and meteorologists are banking on a new strategy for talking about climate change: Take the politics out of it.
That means avoiding the phrase climate change, so loaded with partisan connotations as it is. Stop talking about who or what is most responsible. And focus instead on what is happening and how unusual it is - and what it is costing communities.
**SNIP**
The hope is to persuade the small but powerful minority that stands in the way of new policies to mitigate climate changes worst long-term effects - as well as the people who vote for them - that something needs to be done or their own livelihoods and health will be at stake.
The new language taking root is meant to instill this sense of urgency about what is happening in ways to which everyday citizens can relate - without directly blaming it on human activity: The spring blossoms keep coming earlier; seasonal allergies are worsening and lasting longer; extreme heat is upending the kids summer camp schedule; crops are drying up or washing away at alarming rates.

They've only got another twelve years to make it happen. GO!
You misspelled “Pollutico.”
-40 F in chicago this week!!!!
Yeah, we ran the heating system from late September to mid May last year. Things are getting so warm around here 60 miles north of NYC. LOL I can’t remember the last time that happened.
Climate change is natural. Those four words piss liberals off because, of course, it’s not political. Whatever is happening to the climate, it’s going to happen whether we want it to or not.
Its a beautiful thing, the destruction of words.Same old game is alive and well.

” Leading climate scientists and meteorologists are banking on a new strategy for talking about climate change: Take the politics out of it.”
If they added drama like “we’re gonna die tomorrow!” it would be more effective s/
“Scientists and meteorologists on the front lines of the climate wars are testing a new strategy to get through to the skeptics and outright deniers.”
How about falsifiable predictions and repeatable results? A bit old fashioned, grant you, but that’s sure to charm those stubborn skeptics.
We used to call it,...the seasons.
The “Cult of Catastrophe” must have more followers or else.
Speak of Climate Change® as if it’s a religion. Treat it as such.
“People dont want to be lectured to.”
So we’re going to do it anyway.
Sounds right to me. - Tom
Whats the point, were all going to be killed by climate change in 12 years.
Just ask the bipolar manic jack@ss.
Glad we left Minnesota...
I am reminded of an old NANCY cartoon from fifty five or sixty years ago in which Aunt Frizy Ritz has Nancy look at the TV to find out the weather forecast was.
The weatherman uses such terms as would make a person’s head swim, like “isobars”, “negative tilted trough”, “occulated front”, “POSITIVE ISOTHERMAL VORTICITY ADVECTION”.
So Nancy goes next door and asks the old man there...”Mr Jones, what are your bunions saying about what tomorrow’s weather will be?”
If they want to get by my near instant antagonism towards their efforts, they will stop using the SEMANTICALLY LOADED descriptor of “DENIER” and its formulations. These proponents latched onto this word in order to equate and INSINUATE that non-proponents, of any stripe, are the same as the deniers of the Holocaust Genocide of WW2. Such a match is abhorrent and an insult to the survivors & families of the latter and is an intellectual disgrace in the comparison of the issues.
Non-proponents of anthropogenic climate change (or whatever is the ad hoc descriptor of the day) can be called disputers and skeptics. There is no prejudicial valuation attached to either nor a host of other synonyms. Get a thesaurus and have at it or admit to dishonesty and fraud.
where’s George Orwell when you need him?
