Complete vanity. IT help?

Starting up an online biz. Guess you could call it an e-commerce site. I know there are a lot of IT guys, coders, etc here so thought I’d ask. What I need: Professional host for website with managed (?) database, ease of use Medium traffic with traffic spikes Process credit cards and PayPal Email for company use and marketing

I’ve looked until I’m totally confused now. I want it to be a clean, professional company that once the website is set up I and my 2 daughters can manage the site...add campaigns, remove campaigns, etc. I also want to be able to scale up to high traffic if it’s needed later. I’d like something a little more professional than godaddy and others like it since eventually I think the girls can take the company up up up. Suggestions? Thank you!

You’re going to set up a site where other suppliers/sellers can
come and promote their products, specials, sales, etc? They do
the campaign set up work and you do the hosting? Is that correct?

“Not a tangible product.”

If you think Amazon Web Services is not a tangible product, you need more advice and assistance than you know.

What you did sounds more in line with what we plan on doing. I don’t want to build the site. I’m hiring someone to build it. But I want it to be easy to add a new campaign and take an old one out. It won’t be that often and we should be able to do it once the site is built. Yes, I want third party payment processing. But I also need a way to track ticket numbers assigned to all customers and use their emails for marketing other campaigns to them.
I know I need a hosting company but would I need a hosting/database company?

The church that I attend has been using https://www.inmotionhosting.com for quite a few years now for our website hosting provider. No complaints.
They’ve been CNET certified for 16 years.

I knew amazon has web services. I thought you meant to run my products through Amazon.
I’ll check on them.
Thanks!

Yes. That’s the kind I’ve been looking at. Thanks.
Every time I find one online when you read the reviews....they’ve got some really bad ones.

My first question is how big is your bathroom?
I really don’t have a second question...
Maybe keep a bottle of bleachbit on hand for later;)

Learn to write your own database queries by yourself.
Database is the easier part. That is if you know how not to corrupt the data.

The Big Tech companies like Amazon have a reputation of burning your business down if they so much disagree with your ideas. Better get all that in a written contract.

Web providers/Tech are morphing into publishers with edit control. That is bad. Ask how many youtube folks went from $millions, then demonitized down to $1000s.

Years of effort gone overnight.

I know I need a hosting company that processes payments. Say I want to Assign a ticket number to each customer along with their name and email address for a drawing in about 45 days. Can I track/save that with a hosting company alone or would I need a hosting/database company?
I guess that’s my main question.

No problem...there are plenty of “Web hosting” services out there, but good “tech support” makes the difference for me! And I have never had a problem with Pair support.

I think Mariner is right, sounds like you need something like Amazon Web Services.

...would I need a hosting/database company?

Most web hosting services bundle in a database system on the back end. You web developer with almost certainly know this and may even have a preferred service.

As for payment processing, there is a company I've heard of, Rocketr.net, that specializes in delivery of digital products and services. I have not used them, but you might check it out.

Thank you! That’s the exact info I was looking for. I was going to ask her when we meet but I like to know as much about a subject as I can before I go in. Need to know exactly what questions to ask.

Most hosting sites will have the database connections available.

I had a pre-built program that would build pages and groups for me. For example, I needed to put in one update, and the link would show up on the main page (like a list of new events) and then it would link to a page of the teams.

I shot college spots. So you would have College A’s page. That page would then list soccer, football, volleyball, games in order of dates. Those links would be connected to the third party order page. That third party would be the ordering page, payment processors and ticket generator.

This was at least ten years ago. I am sure it’s gotten easier and more sophisticated.

How do you find these systems? You look for their copyrights and trademarks on pages and by viewing the code on pages you like.

When you’ve looked at enough different pages you can start to see “homemade” pages, customized pages, and complete drop in pages.

I was ok at basic coding and cobbling stuff together. But in the end, the third party products got so good, more and more of my site became nothing more than a front end app.

Again, in Internet time, I am talking about the Stone Age.
