Complete vanity. IT help?

Starting up an online biz. Guess you could call it an e-commerce site. I know there are a lot of IT guys, coders, etc here so thought I’d ask. What I need: Professional host for website with managed (?) database, ease of use Medium traffic with traffic spikes Process credit cards and PayPal Email for company use and marketing

I’ve looked until I’m totally confused now. I want it to be a clean, professional company that once the website is set up I and my 2 daughters can manage the site...add campaigns, remove campaigns, etc. I also want to be able to scale up to high traffic if it’s needed later. I’d like something a little more professional than godaddy and others like it since eventually I think the girls can take the company up up up. Suggestions? Thank you!

Like it or not, you’re going to need professional help. There are a lot of potential pitfalls, especially if you’re going to collect PII (personally identifiable information).

Probably your best bet is to reach out to small businesses in your area and see how they’re managing similar things.

You may as well tell us what your selling.
I am curious, because I was thinking of trying a similar type of business selling music store type parts and accessories.

I wonder if cousin It ever had a lice or flea infestation, he always has seemed rather well groomed, not like some Hippie types I have seen in my day, my guess is he never has.

I use “Pair Networks”...HQ in Pittsburgh...server centers in Pittsburgh and Denver.

Great domestic (their own employees) customer service for set-up Q’s/or problems.

Look at your competition. What do they do and how do they manage it?

Think Debt Free. Many startups fail because they use debt.

Use some paid consulting for these answers. A little good consulting can go a long long way,

As far as Web Servers go, I'd say Linux. It has the best network controls and you are going to be behind a good active firewall aren't you??

There really isn’t much competition to talk to. I have apppointments with a web designer and a business attorney next week. I’m just concerned about the hosting Nd database problem right now. I’d like to do it right the first time and not have to move stuff around.

I second Wordpress. You can choose from literally hundreds of themes and you can integrate WooCommerce into your site. Scalable and easy to get support from the community or other sources.

I ran an online photo business for about fourteen years as a secondary business to my primary photo business.

I tried building my own, but always ended up front ending a site where they would process order payments.

If you do ANY amount of business having a third party handle the processing of the payments will save you time and hassle. I got hacked a couple of times, but my customer information was always secure.

I go along with check8ng out what others are doing with a similar service.

You have to ask yourself if you want to provide your service or be a web site admin?
