FISHERS Tens of thousands of jobs available in Indiana right now are tech jobs, but many people who could fill those positions just dont have the right skills like knowing how to code.
Eleven Fifty Academy in Fishers is looking to change that as theyve already launched, changed, and enhanced the careers of hundreds of Hoosiers, including Autumn Henderson.
As a young mother, Henderson wanted to find a career that she was passionate about, and that would pay the bills.
I was really worried for a long time, Henderson said. My parents were gracious enough to let me stay with them while I kind of figured some things out, and that was when my sister told me about Eleven Fifty Academy.
Eleven Fifty is a 12-week immersion program where students learn how to program computers in JavaScript, Dot Net, and Python.
In 12 weeks, they are able to graduate and get a job usually within the first two months that pays $50,000 to $70,000," Scott Jones, founder of Eleven Fifty Academy, said. "Many of them are starting at $70,000,...

I know Scott Jones - it may be non profit but hes making bank.
Note also that the interviewee is his employee!
My first plunge into coding was Lotus 1-2-3 for VAX/VMS. I loved it and spent so much time using it, I began to think in code. It served me well. I ended up rendering a much ‘prettier’ version of the program using VBA. A visiting Japanese tech took a CD of the program back to Japan with him. I later received a gift in return. Neat.

Don’t know diddly about the guy, but if this is actually getting people into the workforce, I don’t have a problem with somebody making money from running/admining it.
And it’s not cheap. I wonder how much of it is being paid by the taxpayer?
Tuition for Eleven Fifty Academy is $13,500, but a number of scholarships are available. The Academy is also G.I. Bill Fund approved, so Veterans can attend for free.
Weeks? How hard can it be? All you need to know is If...Then...Else. For the advanced lesson, class, learn GoTo.
” learn GoTo.”
That was about 40 years ago ...
No!? Really? Did they really get rid of that? I always liked spaghetti.
/s (just in case)
Merry Christmas.

Yeah, I’ve had to try to clean up some messes from “all you need to know” people. It ain’t that easy (cleaning up their messes - in some cases, pretty much downright impossible). Very few are taught proper design.
Basic competence requires a general intelligence level at least one standard deviation above US population average. About two standard deviations are needed for professional level competence.
We are talking about less than 10% of the general population that can truly learn to code and be good with it.
There had better be some other opportunities available for everybody else.

lol
Some of the banking software packages had 100,000 lines of code of them. It was a GL package in the 1980’s. And that was just one of the programs. Good heavens.
Oh yeah, THAT was fun. Solved the problem by accident. Thank God. Got lucky that day.

Thank you. Some day I’ll regal you with my stories from a short-lived experience in Kansas a few years ago. There are silos, and then there was the mother of all silos.
Ironically enough its an encouraged technique for script kiddies. Not go to per se - but early termination out of a function.

Not if Ed Yourdan has his way. ;-)
Your posts are always great.
THAT guy must have written the GL package.
I nearly fainted when I opened one of the programs. IIRC, TSO (mainframe editing interface) told you how many lines - they were numbered).
Development (maintenance work that is - and installation of the package - compiling into machine code -for that package) was on an IBM 370-158 and then deployed to each of two separate IBM 3083’s (a shout out to my nerd comrades out there).
OS was MVS. Later I saw a tiny bit of DOS-VSE, I think when I was doing AS/400 (had to do a small bit on the IBM 38 also there).
Theres a name Ive not heard in a long time... :)
He was a classy guy, wasn’t he?
[A little extra in your envelopes]
Oh, I might have to tell you THAT story some day. Oops.
NEVER let Operations keep a bad tape from ADP, let’s say.....
