SAVANNAH (WJCL)- Wayfair is bringing 1000 jobs to our local community.
The online home decor store is setting up shop in Savannah after looking at several cities.
Savannahs location and infrastructure played into the decision.
The port and airport were also big selling points.
The building where the company will run has been under construction and will officially open in April.
Those involved in the process from the beginning are excited to see it come to life.
"Any time you bring in a project that has over 500 jobs like this, its kind of like winning the SuperBowl," said Trip Tollison, President and CEO of SEDA. "We take it very seriously, but we also get excited when we win project like this."
Chatham County residents voted yes on the e-commerce bill that helped Savannah secure the project.
That bill removed taxes on inventory stored in facilities.
Wayfair is already hiring people to get the building up and running and will fill more positions come April 1st.
Stay with WJCL for updates on when you can apply.
I had never ordered from them before, and have used them twice this Christmas season.
If I go to the ugly mall at all, it will only be to one store that has a direct entrance.
I’ve been using Wayfair a lot since I bought a new house. Good company.
Yes! Come to Savannah, Spend Money!
At least for another few months...then I retire and we’re sailing away.
I love Wayfair.
I go to Savannah at least twice a month on business.
The restaurants are just phenomenal. Love The Grey.
Lots of pretty stuff for the ladies. :)
Haven’t made it to The Grey yet, but, hope to.
If you get a chance, go to Mrs Wilkes Boarding house. Best food anywhere.
I never agreed with Obama on anything, but, one. When he came to Savannah, he went to Mrs Wilkes.
Come early, be prepared to wait, and, be hungry!
Never heard of Mrs Wilkes Boarding House. Will have to try it next time I’m down there.
Thanks!
Just be prepared to wait. It’s VERY popular...for a very good reason.
Make sure you try the fried chicken. Suppose to be in the top 5 in the Universe. :D
I’m prepared to wait for the best Fried Chicken mankind has to offer.
I had the ribeye for two at The Grey - my gosh that thing was wondrous!
