"40 years of malaise"
"I understand I have hurt you with some of my statements"
"We will respond to the economic and social urgency with strong measures, by cutting taxes more rapidly, by keeping our spending under control, but not with U-turns"
From French President Emmanuel Macron's Speech 12/10/2018
France's left-wing political leader Jean-Luc Melenchon called Macron's speech one of "good intentions". He said much of the population will not be affected by Macron's measures.
Melenchon said they will be "paid by the taxpayer" but not "by the great fortunes".
While he did not call for Phase 5 of protest next Saturday, he said it will be up to those involved in the 'yellow vests' protest to decide their next action. He said he did expect Phase 5 of the protest again next Saturday with a "great mobilization".
Melenchon called for a "citizens revolution" and a fairer distribution of wealth.
The "yellow vests" had already called for protest next Saturday ahead of Macron's speech.
From Marine Le Pen of the National Rally (formerly National Front) a welcome of the Macron tax relief measures but she said that his support of:
"wild globalization, financialization of the economy, unfair competition"
does not address the issues raised by the "yellow vests".
Gaullist politician Nicolas Dupont Aignan, who is being prosecuted by the government for allegedly urging police to join protesters on December 1st used words like this to describe the Macron speech:
"great comedy"
"hypocrisy"
Macron's speech was widely interpreted as a move "to the left" but not "toofar to the left". Public opinion polling showed a narrow majority of those polled not finding him convincing with two-thirds of the French supporting the "yellow vests". The OpinionWay polling also found 54 percent supporting an end to the protests.

....next time it won’t be an egg that hits him between the eyes...
Interesting how a promise to cut taxes and rein in spending is interpreted as a move to the left in France.
He looked like a scared teenager!
There is so much wrong with France that no policy or combination of policies will ever fix it. France is like a cocaine addict. It needs to stop using cocaine (socialism). But the addict will never stop and the supplier (government) will never stop supplying it. The government and the populace are in a horrible dance; hating each other and afraid of each other but neither able or willing to stop.
Didn’t he say he would raise the minimum wage?
It’s a catholic country.
As should be done to Democrats here, hang him first, and THEN cut taxes.
Astute observation.
Great analogy.
That cocaine habit destroyed Venezuela. In our own back yard I can think of Detroit and all of Kalifornica.
Another way to look at it, the thoughts of being entitled to something for nothing has the same addictive qualities as gambling.
If the French National Police, National Gendarmerie and French Military approached the organizers of the Yellow Vest’s, asked for an end to the riot, protests and property destruction in exchange for all members of the aforementioned entities to stand shoulder to shoulder, across the country, this sh*t would end in about 10 minutes. Then, a peaceful and organized march to Macrons office where he’ll be peaceably removed, along with all of his lackeys and cronies. Let them move wherever.
A nice, peaceful French Revolution, in the sense that no one from the government will be getting hanged or led to the guillotine. Maybe?
And then the French can tell the EU to pound salt up their ass and dare them to respond. Not sure how it’d work out, though, given that France, Germany and the UK are about the only things keeping it together. Let one of them fall away and in the immortal words of Carl Spackler...That’s all she wrote.
The only people that should be allowed to vote are those that pay taxes. I’d love to see it all inclusive as I do believe that everyone should have their say, but when the Takers can vote themselves, the ability to steal from the Makers, something has to be done. And this is one of the many reasons that our country is sliding, at a seemingly increasing rate, toward cool, hipster loving Democratic Socialism, whatever that is. Because the Dem’s are soooo good at running things...ie ‘Troit and Kalifornica
After the Revolution, it became notionally secular, with freedom of religion (or none, as Voltaire).
But now?
Remember the old saying: "If you want to know who really rules you, find out whom you cannot criticise." Exercise for the reader: what is the one religion in France that you may not criticise?
He is up the creek. People are going to riot until hes gone.
it is catholic in name only and that was three hundred years ago. There is no catholic in communism.
Tax cuts have to be paid for? Oh, the linguistic hoops liberals jump through to keep the truth from the people.
He’s a real fraud
Funny how the yellow vests were yelling We want Trump! If Trump implemented conservative policies theyd really freak. Public school edumacation is doing wonders. At least they all know how to paint and sculpt!
France Latest: Macron Promises Tax Breaks But Is It Enough.
Macron is an incompetent fool and proves it every time he opens his mouth.
The music will eventually stop for sure. And, who will be left without a chair? The middle class of course. The affluent and job creators will have packed their bags and departed for greener (and more sane) pastures.
