They can build cars people want here instead of Canada, China or Mexico. Those countries didnt bail out GM. The USA did. They owe us a bit of patriotic loyalty.
Trump should cancel all Government contracts with GM for government and military vehicles if they shut down those plants.
GM would not be in business today but for the taxes from American citizens. They seem to have conveniently forgotten who buttered their bread.
But it’s models that don’t sell. My dad years ago bought a Camaro Berlinetta and later found out it was assembled in Canada; found some loose bolts floating around the engine compartment as well as some Bondo filler. Took it back to the dealer. It was junk.
Companies should have only loyalty to their stockholders. Government should not subsidize companies. If such were the case the present problem would be mute as GM would have gone bankrupt years ago without the government bailout.
Let the “true” marketplace prevail. Oddly end the end, all benefit from true market forces. When the oilfield crashed and burned in 1983 the government did not bail us out. I went back to school and became a pharmacist. There were a few other guys from the oilfield in school with me due to the crash.
The Canadian Government did bailout GM and Chrysler with $13.7 billion in 2009. Almost none of the bailout money was spent in Canada. $10 Billion was paid back and the rest was written off earlier this year by the Trudeau government.
