Jim Acosta: White House Is Planning to Suspend CNN Reporter's Press Pass Again
Newsweek ^ | November 19, 2018 | Katherine Hignett

White House officials are planning to suspend CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press pass again, after a judge ordered them to temporarily restore it Friday, CNN has reported.

Officials sent a letter to Acosta with a view to revoking his newly regained privileges at the end of the month, the network stated.

CNN issued a statement Sunday claiming officials were “[violating] the First and 5th Amendments of the Constitution.” “These actions threaten all journalists and news organizations,” the statement continued. “Jim Acosta and CNN will continue to report the news about the White House and the President.”

Officials revoked Acosta’s press pass November 7 after a press conference with President Donald Trump. During a heated exchange between the pair, a White House intern attempted to take the microphone from Acosta’s hand. The reporter—CNN's chief White House correspondent—kept hold of the microphone and tried to finish asking a question, saying, “Pardon me, ma’am,” to the intern.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later shared what appeared to be doctored footage of the interaction, sped up to make Acosta’s reaction to the woman look like an attempt to restrain her arm....

For what reason should the White House tolerate rude partisan hacks among the press corps?

****************

What if it went beyond rude partisanship? Consider the possibility that a determined and out-of-control Acosta had caused the intern to fall as a result of his pushing her away? This could easily have happened. So then what? Would he still be entitled to his WH press pass even after physically “displacing” someone?

The point is, bad behavior cannot be tolerated in any form because it can quickly escalate into unintended situations. Therefore, the WH has to have complete authority to remove anyone who does not comply with acceptable rules of decorum and/or protocol.

Yet another reason to enforce standards of behavior is that the world is watching these events. We cannot allow our adversaries abroad to see disrespectful behavior toward the president. That could lead some to perceive that the president is weak and unsupported. A very dangerous thing that can lead to consequential miscalculations.

It's time to escalate the war on the hateful corrupt media, they are getting worse if you can imagine that. They literally drip with hate, I can hardly stand shows like CBS this morning they are so biased.

Never call on Acosta again.

******************

Agree, not under any circumstances. His behavior was disgraceful and he should not be “rewarded” by giving him the opportunity to should his partisan bile. Shut him down and send a message to the rest of his fellow jackals.

Tolerance of bad behavior ALWAYS leads to more of it. And it usually escalates into something much worse.

"... doctored ..."

I wonder if those geniuses at CNN have investigated Obummer's "birth certificate" for evidence of doctoring.

Acosta will not be restrained. He is always shouting out & talking over other reporters.

Somehow, he thinks he is cock of the walk & only he should be getting any attention.

Life? NO

Property? no- that press pas is the property of the White House & the US Government.

Liberty? Acosta thinks he should have the Liberty to yell over everyone, and to continually butt in.

Not sure his ‘Liberty has been impacted. There is a very large country he is free to travel in.

Seat him in a newly constructed soundproof time-out room, and ask him a question every single press conference just to cut the mic and see him rant soundlessly behind glass.

If and when the day comes that he asks a reasonable question without rude interjections or attempts to talk over the President, then he can be considered for probation into the general population of journalists.

Reversion to uncivilized, prohibited behavior will relegate him back into the time-out room. This will apply to all journalists present. If anyone finds these preconditions problematic, they are free to leave.

And dare the left, with their “free speech zones” in cages, to utter a single peep about it.

Do it.

I have a better idea. I signed the online petition to grant a WH press pass to Alex Jones and seat him next to Acosta. No, I am not posting a link, and absolutely do not agree with Jones on everything, but I’ll bet he would be better behaved than Acosta and ask more interesting questions. Also has a much bigger audience than Acosta.

i saw it live too. it wasn’t assault, but she did have a right to the microphone. it is not jim acosta’s mic, it is the people’s mic, and the intern was working for the people.

I saw the assault live. Acosta assaulted that young lady and I said so the moment it happened. The White House could have pressed charges.

<<>>

The intern should have slapped Acosta hard.

Arguably, just as a lawyer needs a bar membership to conduct normal legal practice, a journalist in the White House press corps requires access to the White House in order to practice his profession as a journalist. Ergo, such journalists have liberty and property interests protected by Fifth Amendment due process, one aspect of which is to require that decisions as to the grant or denial or revocation of a White House press pass must be made according to previously announced rules.

The Trump White House will quickly draw up and adopt the called for rules. The news media will hate the rules but will follow them.
