Da Vinci robot. Been around almost 2 decades. Minimally invasive. I would submit to one in any circumstance BUT there has to be an experienced doctor at the controls...they don't operate on their own.

To me, if there is a physician at the controls then it is not a robot - just a tool.

The Da Vinci “robot” is actually a telesurgical tool which does not utilize any motions independent of the surgeon operating it. What was likely used in this massive cluster f*ck was an autonomous surgical robot analagous to a self driving car. Link

Agree— this is robotic assistance... to reduce motions of the surgeon into finer micro control.

Would like to know exactly WHAT machine was being used. The article seems to imply it was “programmed” and working on its own, with a camera monitor that then was covered in blood.

Eye and neurosurgery done with micro-robotics has been very successful in the hands of..... well, not Dr. Bombay and the “shakedown cruise” engineers in this case.

I had abdominal laparoscopic surgery with the da Vinci robot in May. Researched it first, and studies show better outcomes than regular laparoscopic surgery. My surgeon has used it daily for years—prefers it. Apparently it’s like having 4 hands and the robot can make very precise movements.
