Trump’s rain decision casts dark clouds over his Paris trip

PARIS — President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel his visit to an American military cemetery outside of Paris threatened to overshadow his trip here, as government officials, historians and fellow Republicans hammered him for more than 24 hours for that move.

“President@realDonaldTrump a no-show because of raindrops? Those veterans the president didn’t bother to honor fought in the rain, in the mud, in the snow — & many died in trenches for the cause of freedom. Rain didn’t stop them & it shouldn’t have stopped an American president,” wrote former Secretary of State John Kerry, a veteran of the Vietnam War.

The internet lit up Saturday and Sunday with images of other world leaders braving gray skies to lay wreaths, unveil plaques and pay their respects at memorials and cemeteries outside of Paris during a weekend to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel lay a floral wreath on Saturday afternoon at Compiègne, the site where the agreement that stopped World War I was signed. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the World War I battlefield, Vimy Ridge, where he greeted Canadian veterans.

The White House opted to drop the trip for the president due to rainy weather because the president’s Marine One helicopter cannot fly in rain or fog.

Media is completely unhinged. How can we combat this?

President Trump has already completely destroyed the credibility of the Media with 50% of the country.

You are stark-raving mad. You’re screaming and pitching a fit and making libelous accusations that would never hold up in any court.

I don’t have to explain anything to you, although it is the God’s honest truth, so help me God.

You have no call to have laid into me like you did. Name-calling, libel, and all. Yeah, I am familiar with your pseudonym, but sorry, you haven’t made enough impression (until now) to make me recall exactly what you’re like. You must be nit-picking obsessive if you are capable of catching all post replies and remembering everyone’s MO on this site. Because I certainly don’t spend time studying you or making sure I go through threads “the right way” so I catch all your queries.

Get over yourself.

You ASSumed that your memory was better than it is and posted completely INACCURATE garbage about Clinton. Yes..."WRONG" and I said so.

You not only have a lousy memory, but are in great need of a remedial course in reading comprehension! You are now so out of your depth, that you're writing stuff you're just making up, as well as anti-Trump and anti-Trumper crap.

You know what?

A good many posters here have ancestors who fought in WW I, WWII, and some, if not ALL of the previous and later wars that America has been involved in.

Your paternal grandfather's service does NOT absolve you from posting the bilge you've been posting.

Ah, you forgot to include me in reply.

Get off YOUR high horse.

NEITHER OF YOU KNOWS SQUAT ABOUT ME, except maybe what you can find on FR. Seems you haven’t looked enough, if you’re so worried about accuracy.

For one thing, I’m a woman, not a guy; you’d know that one little tidbit if you looked at my profile.

Another, MY grandfather was in France in WWI.

You jerks are seriously judging me based on one stinkin’ thread? On one original reply to the article?

Get off it, already.

We have enough enemies without turning ANYONE who dares speak something you don’t like into a mortal enemy.

“Isn’t kosher” is the epitome of turn-coat communist evil, it would seem.

Its France. French security and government is shot thru with Trump haters/USA haters. Do you think the french let USSS have complete control over timings? Its enemy territory. Maybe there was a signals intercept, we’ll never know because of the embarrassment to France. Or England. DJT is interrupting billion dollar global corporatism with tariffs etc. Lots of economic frenemies, lots of intel agencies and intrigues, lots of possibles for playing a patsy.

"Name calling"?

"LIBEL" ?

"Pitching a fit" ?

Your terminal projection complex and paranoia need to be seen to! And playing "THE VICTIM" makes you look weak, silly, and yes, laughable. Get a grip and grow up!

Oh big deal - “he found a cross in the sand” vs “he found rocks and made a cross”.

Oh, HUGE inaccuracy. God forbid I don’t recall it perfectly accurately.

THE POINT was that it was staged for Clinton to look good AND the press fawned over it. WE AGREE.

GOD ALMIGHTY, what do you want from me?

Pssssssssssssssssssssssssssst...you are the one who is name calling and unhinged.

Now you're just being an hysteric.

If you can't take the back and forth here, don't post anything which just might invite someone to challenge, correct, nor question you. Yes, it IS as simple as that.

And YOU don't "KNOW" anything at all about other posters here; it goes both ways.

The problem isn’t flying the helicopter in the rain and low ceilings, it’s landing it. In order to land in low visibility or low ceilings you have to have an aiport with an instrument approach available that allows you to get below the cloud deck. The cemetary where this event took place was 60 miles from Paris and I doubt there was a town nearby with a sufficient airport, they were probably planning on landing in a nearby field but with the low cloud deck that wasn’t possible. You can’t just descend through the clouds and see what’s below you when you pop out, it doesn’t work that way.

France is full of muslims, any one of which would love to have a chance to visit Allah and his 72 virgins by taking a crack at Trump. Sufficiently clearing and securing a motorcade route for 60 miles through a foreign country isn’t likely at last minute so the right call was made to have the president stay in a secure location. Quite frankly other countries leader’s security precautions don’t have to rise to the level of the President of the United States. Someone like Justin Trudeau or Angela Merkel is a lot less important and more expendable on the world stage than Trump. They’re also much less of a target.

My other thought (someone else suggested it) is:
1. The GOP is going to have to run non-stop commercials to make the Democrats own things like the high murder rates of minorities in Democrat run cities and the decay in those same cities, and
2. We'll have to help them pay for it.

Given the historical reluctance of the GOP to go after the Dems, I'll wait on the first before committing to the second.

Let’s start with your quotes replying to my article-reply first, not me reacting to you:

“Okay #NEVERTRUMPER” name-call, assumption (libel, if you think that is bad)

“But obviously, YOU swooned/would still swoon over such things.” - LIBEL, assumptions with zero evidence.

And later after I queried quite simply what you were talking about:

“see that you have ignore my original post .... WHY IS THAT?” - assumptions, libel - zero evidence

“And now you have been sort of backtracking a bit. Melting from the heat you’re getting; snowflake.” In order: backtrack: ASSUMPTION, libel - snowflake: name-calling

“Next time THINK...” - insults

NOT ONCE before these couple posts did I react to YOU with CAPITAL-LETTER SCREAMING, insults, or assumptions that are basically libel (untruths in writing). Don’t try to quote me AFTER *YOU* started the fight.

I’m done with this fight. Next time, pal.

I really do not care about your questioning my families heritage and service to this country over many generations dating back to before we became one. I respect the office of the President as Commander in Chief of all armed forces as well as the role of his security detail to advise him regarding his security.

The rantings of a whiny female of the species will get no quarter from me. I care not what gender you claim as a right to vent your spleen an I have the same to respond. Your need to mention it smacks of gender driven politics, and if you want to play equals then you will take incoming fire equal to or better than what you put out.

All of us have a right to say what we want, but not to control the response and whine if it does not meet your standards. Buckle up buttercup, stand your ground and hold your position but if others disagree that is the way it is.

You are not my enemy, unless you position yourself to be so. Your posts are put up by you and mine by me, and I will say what I want in response. You have done so and I have as well, and we have our positions on it and that is as far as it goes. If you wish to continue I will consider whether or not in MY VIEW you are worth the time to even respond, and just let your words stand on their own

Actually, it IS a HUGE inaccuracy!

Calm down; you are now in the HYSTERICAL ZONE" and for no good reason!

What do I "want" from you?

Accuracy for starters, followed by rationality, actual debate, and ADULT behavior.

Look, you got hammered on this thread by many; not just by me. WHY do you imagine that is? Can't you just accept the fact that you and ONLY you started something, with your own posts, and you are still "digging".

Just let it all go; please!

Thank you for your REASONED response.

No question there are Moslems galore who could be interested in getting at unPC Trump.

I wonder about Frenchies and other Euros, too, but yes, Moslems are the real threat, while the French are in denial.

I still wonder, why not the limo treatment, if the craft can’t get up? Oh well.

YOU let it go. YOU are the one who started attacking ME. And no, while I’ve had replies, no one has beaten on me like you. You are trying to turn it upside down, turn an ox into a bull and bull to a cow, but my quoting you shows all one needs to know about who started it.

Give me a little credit for fighting back.

But DONE. NEXT THREAD.

I do my best to not insult on freepers or in life. My dear late mothers last words to me were “if you don’t have anything good to say don’t say anything”.
