PARIS President Donald Trumps decision to cancel his visit to an American military cemetery outside of Paris threatened to overshadow his trip here, as government officials, historians and fellow Republicans hammered him for more than 24 hours for that move.
President@realDonaldTrump a no-show because of raindrops? Those veterans the president didnt bother to honor fought in the rain, in the mud, in the snow & many died in trenches for the cause of freedom. Rain didnt stop them & it shouldnt have stopped an American president, wrote former Secretary of State John Kerry, a veteran of the Vietnam War.
The internet lit up Saturday and Sunday with images of other world leaders braving gray skies to lay wreaths, unveil plaques and pay their respects at memorials and cemeteries outside of Paris during a weekend to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel lay a floral wreath on Saturday afternoon at Compiègne, the site where the agreement that stopped World War I was signed. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the World War I battlefield, Vimy Ridge, where he greeted Canadian veterans.
The White House opted to drop the trip for the president due to rainy weather because the presidents Marine One helicopter cannot fly in rain or fog.
So you think Trump doesn’t care about the troops after all he’s done for them?
You don’t think the Secret Service might have done this for the security of the President?
You don’t care about the security of POTUS?
OK Im confused. Are they saying he ditched the SATURDAY engagement, but went to the Sunday? Sounds like he made it to one but not the other. Unclear writing.
Dont put words in my mouth. I am stating honestly, that this is not a kosher move if I understand this poorly written and organized article.
I dont simply roll over for whatever Trump says or does.
Im willing to criticize but that does not mean ultimately I will not back him.
He went today to that cemetery. I watched the ceremony.
Not his decision!! These writers are so stupid.
What do you know?
From Avion Insurance:
"Rain, snow, sleet, and fog may not affect helicopter performance, but they generally obstruct visibility. These conditions may make take-off and landing more difficult and affect a pilots ability to see obstacles that are encountered during flight. Rain, snow, and sleet may also make conditions on the tarmac or landing pad slippery, which can be problematic."
The Secret Service--not the President--determines when it's safe to fly Marine One.
I applaud your choice, but I would still want to know what’s being said and by whom, and who is sponsoring them. If I can do that without putting money in their pockets then so much the better.
No, that’s silly. If it were real they’d keep quiet.
It’s just an opportunity to get on him, and Trump haters never miss a chance.
Did you make it through the day?
As if the leftists really care about our soldiers. After all, the are okay with rich football players trashing them by kneeling during the anthem.
Crocodile tears.. I am calling BS on this one.
I didnt even know about this until just now. So Im fine.
When Slick Willy Clinton was president, on the 50th anniversary of D DAY, there just happened to be some handy rocks on Omaha Beach, which he stooped to pick up and make a message with.
The cameras were there, the prestitutes were there, and there was story after GLOWING STORY about how "wonderful" this was. And Dear old Slick Willy HATES our military and we even have his own letters stating that. But obviously, YOU swooned/would still swoon over such things.
Today is the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI and he went to these ceremonies, so just WHAT is your beef with that?
Does President Trump have to go to everything that Macron and the B*tch of Bukenwald go to?
Your other posts belie what you claimed in this one.
What do I know? How about you?
I worked on systems in attack copters.
And common sense says yes, there can be problems flying and so on, but helos still fly in it. And Ive not yet heard that M1 wasnt used because the rain was too much. Was it a deluge?
You obviously think Trump took this decision lightly and just doesn’t care. That’s the only logical interpretation of what you said.
What other posts, what claim?
It is not logical. You read what you want. Centennial of WWI Armistice Day has little to do with what Trump does for living MIL personnel. You are jumping to conclusions with no basis.
Trump may well have a good reason, and it does look like he went to another cem, but when I just read this it seemed a bit untoward. Not a huge deal, but Trump is not perfect and Im not going to pretend he is.
I agree. I hope there waS a real reason other than rain. It’s a public relations nightmare.
You can fly 3000 miles but not make the last 50. Secret service get weather reports and contingency plans would have been made. Our dead soldiers deserved better.
