WashPo/ABC News Poll Has Ominous News For Democrats
American Greatness ^ | November 4, 2018 | Julie Kelly

Despite the headlines about an eight-point advantage for Democrats in the generic congressional ballot, the detailed results of today’s Washington Post/ABC News poll should make most Democratic Party leaders and their billionaire benefactors sweat.

First, the eight-point gap represents a five-point drop from the same poll just three weeks ago, when Democrats had a 13-point advantage. (Like most polls, the sample favors Democrats by six points among registered voters.)

But even more ominous for Democrats is how specific voting blocs responded. If Democrats are going to win control of the House, they need to pull votes from independent women and women in the suburbs, and support for the generic Democratic congressional candidate has dropped significantly among these two groups. Independent women now are split between Republicans and Democrats; this is a seismic shift from the results of its October poll, which gave Democrats a 33-point lead in this group. Further, Democratic women appear less likely to vote than Democratic men, Republican men, and Republican women.

Suburban women now favor a Democratic candidate by 11-points, a lead that’s been cut in half since last month. Since many of the Republican toss-ups and “lean Democratic” seats are located in suburban areas, this could portend trouble for Democrats. At the same time, the GOP has made big gains among non-college white men and rural residents.

The top two issues—health care and the economy—cut both ways for each party. Registered voters trust Democrats to handle health care, but trust Republicans to handle the economy. Voters prefer Republicans to handle taxes, while they prefer Democrats to handle immigration and global warming.

Generic FAKE poll and the RATS are in big trouble

But one issue stands out: border security. Amazingly, the pollsters admit it’s the first time they’ve asked about border security, and 59 percent of registered voters said it is an important issue in the election. Eighty-four percent of Republicans and 47 percent of Democrats ranked border security as a key issue; independents were evenly split. Republicans have a ten-point lead over Democrats on the question of who will better handle border security, and a 19-point lead among independents. (Anyone who reads Rachel Bovard won’t be surprised by this.)

The biggest headwind for the GOP remains Donald Trump.

Uh-oh. Oohhh boy. Ominous news for Democrats. Watch out.

Carter was well ahead of Reagan until the weekend before the election in 1980.

Yeah, and I’m sure they really believe it, too. Trump is pulling 15,000+ people to his rallies, and HE’S a problem for the GOP?! Ha ha ha! He’s the only reason those idiots have a prayer of retaining control of Congress.

generic congressional ballot

The generic ballot poll is essentially meaningless. The control of the House is going to depend on the ballots in the swing districts—not the country as a whole. If our side gets out the vote in those districts, we keep control. If you live in one of those districts you need to make sure you get out and vote. (Don’t misunderstand, we all need to vote, but the swing district votes are vital.)

Also possible: the person who wrote that line doesn't know what the "headwind" metaphor means.

If border security is important, why would President Trump be a headwind?

Whoops. I read the article, and I guess I was "wrong."

The author — Julie Kelly — actually appears to think that Trump is a problem for Republicans.

SMH, as they say.

I expected leftist voter fatigue. The democrats counted on getting their pink-hat contingent angry and keeping them angry for two years. Even among those on the left, maintaining rage for that long is exhausting. One of the few people I actually like on the Bernie Sanders fringe just told me yesterday that she's not voting - she planned a vacation and was "too busy" to vote early, so she will miss this election.

Throw in the far left's overreach with Kavanaugh, which offended most women who have husbands or sons (pretty much everyone over age 30 except those SJWs who killed all their unborn children), and the democrats destroyed their chances with normal voters. Changing the standards of guilt to a Salem Witch Trial mentality was a very serious error. Thank God America's enemies are so incompetent; other than President Trump, our allies are not any more capable.

The Kavanaugh hearings were the Wellstone Funeral times 100.

Nothing more than pollsters back tracking so they don’t get as many eggs on their faces as 2016

The polls are paid for my the left wing media and to the last breath and until actual poll numbers come in they will continue to say that the Dems will win. But they are starting to downplay it.

In 48-72 hours we will read stories that “Even though Democrats failed to win the House or Senate, their performance this election cycle is a win”

Every time the MSM uses ‘IT’S A TIE’ or “DEAD HEAT’ in the polls or headlines, it means the Republican is LEADING by a respectable margin..

I don't know how these posters ever get any data?

I was making calls for a State Senate candidate, contacting only Unaffiliated voters who have yet to return their ballots.

NOBODY would talk to me!

EVERY answered call hung up on me!

I don’t think illegals are near as benign an issue with many voters as the Left would like to believe. Like supporting Trump, most voters probably either don’t answer or lie about being tired of illegals because they don’t want to be thought of as racist. I remember the first time I traveled abroad for business. I got tired of never being able to understand what people were saying around me. It was good to get back home where I could understand everyone, and I fit in. Now, I go out and hear Spanish everywhere. I feel like a foreigner in my own country.

Either their polling methodology is seriously flawed or "independent women" are the most insanely flighty group of humans that have ever developed.

Hmmmm...

Don't confuse stupidity with mobility. The leftie pussyhat women I know are still raging and crying about how the awful men in the world will treat their daughters, and it's all Trump's fault. You can bet they'll be at the polls.

First time they have asked about illegal immigrants!!!!! Are just stupid? Were you asleep for the past three years? And you wonder why people won’t talk to pollster. America knows you are just another liberal group posing as independent thinking but are frauds.
