A Wisconsin bear hunter was attacked by a 357-pound black bear and miraculously survives the ordeal.
Tye Carlson is an experienced hunter with 40 years, he was surprised when he found himself getting mauled by the large bruin.
Carlson and his party were chasing the bear near Wascott, Wisconsin, when the bear got tired of being chased so it decided to stop and attack.
Unfortunately, Carlson was the nearest to the bear when it attacked.
Before Carlson knew it, the bear was on him. "He popped out and he wasnt going to stop, he said. He just ran me over and started biting on me," he said.
Carlson is a big man, he tried to push the bruin off.
The bear bit, clawed and pushed Carlson around effortlessly.
Carlson was able to use his gun to shoot the bear multiple times, but with no effect.
The bear was still attacking even when his partys hunting dog arrived and engaged.
Finally, someone in his party was able to get a shot in that mortally wounded the bear. See the newscast footage of Wisconsin man survives bear attack.
Sometimes people forget that bears have the right to bear arms too. ;-)
“Some days you get the bear. Some days the bear gets you”.
I never hunted anyhing that could eat me.
Some days you get the bear. Some days the bear gets you.
Yeh, another way to say it is; stupid is as stupid does.
so, IOWs, he got way ahead of his hunting party and the dogs, and did it himself. Good chance he could have been shot by his people.
Was any alcohol involved?
Many years ago, we were deer hunting in W. PA and it had been unusually warm. The bears would normally have been in hibernation, but were still out feeding.
A very big Brown Bear, well over 400 pounds, stood up within 20 yards of my brother in law, scaring the crap out of him.
He fired a round near the bear, and the bear just looked at him.
If the bear had charged, we would have opened up on it, but instead, it turned and just walked away, no harm no foul.
But it is possible to get eaten even if you are not hunting them.
Carlson and his party were chasing the bear ...

I think I see the problem.
“when the bear got tired of being chased so it decided to stop and attack.”
As with riding a motorcycle, you must expect the unexpected. Reminds me of the old joke about I don’t have to be able to run faster than the bear, I just have to be faster than you. Mr. Carlson shoulda kept up with his cardio.
Moral of story: man who chase bear
will get caught by same.
Sounds like he was an idiot. Good thing he wasn’t hunting mountain lions.
I wonder how he managed to get ahead of his dogs.
Not too smart. He should have been letting the dogs lead.
That's how you hunt with dogs.......
With all due respect, it must have been many, many years ago. There are no Brown bears in Pennsylvania!
Ursus americanus is the black bear’s scientific name; it means “American bear.” Although three species of bears inhabit North America, only the black bear is found in Pennsylvania. A population estimate in 2015 showed approximately 20,000 bears living in the commonwealth.
I saw the headline, and all I could think of was the Packers’ narrow win over the Bears in Green Bay earlier this season, 24-23.
Bear Facts.
Some Black bears are brown or cinnamon in color. That’s probably what he meant.
Still, 400 lbs is pretty good sized for a Blackie. Very impressive to see in person, I am sure.
“Hold my bear and watch this!”
