ONE MINOR AND VAGUE SPOILER ALERT
Not having a television was meant to be a discipline to force me to limit my watching to good DVDs and suitable streaming content. Over the years the streams got cheaper and better, and I was already a member of Amazon Prime, so I decided to try The Man in the High Castle, as I found the premise intriguing.
Despite occasional profanity and explicit bedroom material, and one stupid episode in Season 2 (The Nazis on LSD episode), I stuck with it, and even read the book. I had thought that the producers, directors and writers did a solid job of fleshing out Phillip K. Dicks ideas, without violating the spirit of the original story. The series had been tighter and the subplots mostly well-thought-out, and the actress who plays Julianna was perfect for the part, as both the book version and the series version needed a woman who could adapt to any situation and be appealing in any role.
I also figured that the number of sub-plots was getting out of control, and season 3 would be a great time to bring it all together and wrap it up.
I will not find out if it gets wrapped up because I have stopped watching as of halfway through episode 4.
What ruined it? It wasnt the peacenik implications in the current billboard campaign. The resistance against the Nazis and the Japanese Empire was well-established in the storyline before Trumps election, and bears no resemblance to the crazies on the left here.
The series was ruined because no one is willing to make a dramatic series without bringing on-screen homosexual activity into the mix. Of course, the major character who turns out to be a pervert is one who is otherwise extremely virtuous and sympathetic. Once it was clear that there was going to be guy kissing on screen, the show goes off, and is staying off.
My inclination to avoid new programming has now been reinforced. No more Amazon originals.
I am with you on the hay scenes...not my fave but....and yes....it gets kinda sci-fi’ish. I finished the last episode yesterday.
Alternative history appeals to me
Have you ever read Newt Gingrichs 1945? Really a great WWII alternative.
Can’t say that I have.
Will have to.
Thanks! I did not know about this collection.
Have not seen an episode in many months, but in the alternate reality, that business of the June Cleaver character as a Nazi wife is pretty interesting.
I agree, if these shows start to lose viewers and get canceled, maybe they will eventually stop shoving their agenda in our faces.
I’m currently watching a South Korean reboot of Agatha Christie.
If you’re into reading Newt Gingrich co-authored “Gettysburg”, an alternative story where Lee wins at Gettysburg, surrounds Washington and takes Baltimore.
A good book.
He and his co-author also wrote a second book “Grant Comes East” that picks up where Gettysburg left off.
I thought the first season was quite good, while the second season was alright. I haven’t felt the need to watch the third season.
I’ve been going back and re-watching Game of Thrones.
Mark
Indeed!
WWII as fantasy.
What a shame. I just started watching it am up to season 3 episode 2.
Thanks for the warning of the homo aspect of this series. Hollywood’s crusade to propagandize and destroy traditional Judeo-Christian values will be their downfall.
Thank you for the tip.
I’m pretty sure the book The Last Ship had female crew members boning multiple dudes, and then when that failed to make babies boned the Russian submariners too. I forget.
