Doris Kearns Goodwin (Historian): Persuade People To Dislike Trump
RCP Video ^ | 10-6-2018 | Ian Schwartz

(snip)

On Trump's relationship with his supporters, Goodwin said they feel like Trump's their friend. However, she said, that is not the same as being a cult president where they just believe what you say, somehow, but you're not giving them what they really hoped for.

GOODWIN: What's more important is that we have to persuade other people of why we have to go against Mr. Trump right now.

MAHER: Because he's a traitor.

GOODWIN: No, because using that language is not going to reach the people you want to reach.

MAHER: But what language would you use?

GOODWIN: Here's what I would use. I would use the fact that this man has no humility which is an important part of every president; that he has no empathy; that he has no resilience; that he says the reason he's so humble is because the Pope is very humble just like Donald Trump.

I mean, you can't think that way. You can't be a person that says the most important thing is never to lose, that you always have to win. Every president that I've studied has gone through adversity and they came out stronger at that the other end.

Ernest Hemingway said, 'Everyone's broken by life but sometimes people are stronger in the broken places.'

He says he's never experienced loss and that's why he has the very, very best temperament of anyone whose run. Use those ordinary kinds of things and that's going to persuade people. They can see that this is not a leader. This is not a man whose experienced any kind of empathy for other people. That's what you got to do to persuade people.

Hmmmm, let's see, which other president also doesn't have humility and empathy? Oh, oh, I know, "Teh Won".

Doris Kearns Goodwin, I'm assuming she's a presidential historian here (correct me if I'm wrong), basing her personal opinion as she studied previous presidents. And here's what/where she got it wrong - Trump is not your typical politician, like most all other previous presidents.

He may say "he's never experienced loss and that's why he has the very, very best temperament of anyone whose run", which is literally true. Trump never ran for office so he never experienced loss. And the best part of his comment is that he has the best temperament to run for office, because he fights.

By using one Trump sentence Doris Kearns Goodwin concluded that "Trump doesn't have humility, empathy, and resilience"? Streeeeetching much?

“You can’t be a person that says the most important thing is never to lose, that you always have to win.”

Sure you can!

In fact that attitude is a prerequisite for an AMERICAN President.

Normally I don’t care Bill Maher, HBO ‘REAL TIME’ host, and other late night show ‘comedians’ think or say. But this time I can’t help myself.

I guess they couldn’t tell Trump’s supporters that he plagiarizes history books.

“That’s what you got to do to persuade people.”

For someone who has so much education, she comes across as barely literate. Maybe that is part of what TDS does to people. The only way that this would have been even better is if she added an “s” on to “got.”

Doris Kearns Goodwin (Historian): Persuade People To Dislike Trump

I guess paying them to dislike Trump didn't work well enough.

So she proposes to replace one set of personal attacks with another. How about addressing his record, and explaining how your side would do better? Hard to do when it’s clear that they would do worse, for everyone except themselves.

“no resilience”? He’s the most resilient person I’ve ever seen. And that resilience is a real problem for leftist hacks like Ms. Doris.

Every president that I've studied has gone through adversity

None suffered like LBJ, who endured sex with Doris Kearns Goodwin. Allegedly.

Doris, President Trump is not LBJ... What you libtards will never comprehend is the natural, core to the bone, “ love of our country “, President Trump has for the United States... In spite of freaks like you.

People can smell weakness. We need to be stronger because followers will become suspicious if we don’t start acting like the free people we are.

I guess people with empathy call people like us bitter clingers (Obama) or a basket of deplorables (Clinton). Yeah - that’s empathic.

Dishonest Alinsky tactics 101, attack the messenger [President Trump], and never the message so you don’t ever have to debate on point.

With so many indicators showing America is doing much better the only thing the left has is raw hatred of the man who is proving them wrong.

He wins all the time because he expects to win. I guess that bothers her.

She’s probably also one of the people upset by his “bankruptcies”. And also by the “fact” that he’s never has a setback. Probably can’t put those two together, but who cares?

I wonder if she remembers the quote about FDR (one of her heroes) — “Third rate intellect, but first rate temperament.”
Trump is a first rate intellect and a first rate temperament. So much better than FDR.

Let’s see, I remember some comments from at least one former President. “I am all that is standing between you and the pitchforks.” “Republicans need to get in the back seat and let us drive.” “I won.” “Elections have consequences.”...........Another President said with much empathy, “ Better put some ice on that.” And then just with just as much empathy and humility because he love the American public so much, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”
