Doris Kearns Goodwin (Historian): Persuade People To Dislike Trump
RCP Video ^ | 10-6-2018 | Ian Schwartz

Posted on 10/07/2018 6:53:38 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

(snip)

On Trump's relationship with his supporters, Goodwin said they feel like Trump's their friend. However, she said, that is not the same as being a cult president where they just believe what you say, somehow, but you're not giving them what they really hoped for.

GOODWIN: What's more important is that we have to persuade other people of why we have to go against Mr. Trump right now.

MAHER: Because he's a traitor.

GOODWIN: No, because using that language is not going to reach the people you want to reach.

MAHER: But what language would you use?

GOODWIN: Here's what I would use. I would use the fact that this man has no humility which is an important part of every president; that he has no empathy; that he has no resilience; that he says the reason he's so humble is because the Pope is very humble just like Donald Trump.

I mean, you can't think that way. You can't be a person that says the most important thing is never to lose, that you always have to win. Every president that I've studied has gone through adversity and they came out stronger at that the other end.

Ernest Hemingway said, 'Everyone's broken by life but sometimes people are stronger in the broken places.'

He says he's never experienced loss and that's why he has the very, very best temperament of anyone whose run. Use those ordinary kinds of things and that's going to persuade people. They can see that this is not a leader. This is not a man whose experienced any kind of empathy for other people. That's what you got to do to persuade people.

Tried to watch. Couldn’t watch. Oldster circle jerks not at all watchable in my opinion.

Doris Kearns Goodwin, I’m assuming she’s a presidential historian

Also, as I recall from many years back, a professional plagiarizer ... and discredited as a reliable historian.

I was thinking there was something about LBJ, Doris, and a desk? That personal experience makes her an expert on what a president should be?

I would argue that Trump sees the US as a ‘business’, and a failure as a CEO...means you get fired. So he reacts in a totally different way. For him, ‘profits’ have to be obvious and on the charts. This whole Kavanaugh thing...became like an ‘Apprentice-show’ with drama, and false accusations...the truth won out, and the best ‘apprentice’ won in the end.

And absolutely nobody feels that Goodwin the plagiarist is their friend.

Never mind that “overly-attached girlfriend” grin that should not be there.

So she proposes to replace one set of personal attacks with another. How about addressing his record, and explaining how your side would do better? Hard to do when it’s clear that they would do worse, for everyone except themselves.

Isn't that, you know, what a historian does? ?S

Ernest Hemingway said, 'Everyone's broken by life but sometimes people are stronger in the broken places.'

Hemingway also ate the barrel end of a shotgun, because he could no longer live the self-centered life he lived.

-—He says he’s never experienced loss and that’s why he has the very, very best temperament of anyone whose run.-—

God, this is stupid.

Of course he’s experienced loss. Wasn’t his deceased brother an alcoholic, which is why he doesn’t drink?

DKG is foolishly thinking campaign bravado and hyperbole is a window into the soul. Pffft. The point about Trump is that he’s constantly pushing to win and won’t tolerate failure. It’s a good thing to project a confident attitude like that.

The NeverTrumper’s never realize the low esteem we hold for them.

They continue to tout his personality as a reason to hate him. I don’t like a lot about his personality, but I love his results. If that isn’t diversity I don’t know what is. I utterly despise the Left’s personality, however, and every time they open their mouth it confirms my vote.

DJT is my hired gun against those ahole’s and I’d hire him again without a second’s hesitation.

He can’t be a “Modern” President, because he was never a member of the Political Elite Club. Too bad Trump changed parties, had he remained a Democrat, he would be a GOD. He would be admired as much as Ted Kennedy who could have been a God. TS I say, who the hell wants a Kau Tau wussy for a President? Get’r done Mr.President, kick butt if you must.

Then there's the time that President Washington went with Knox to the Senate chambers with Treaty in hand.

Washington expected immediate advise and consent.

The Senate said....whoa Mr. President....That's not how this works...we haven't even seen the Treaty. Leave it and we'll take a look at it.

Washington was furious..and responded...."Then why am I here"....and stomped out.

IMHO, Washington was as vain as they come but it worked for the times.

I stopped about halfway through listening to that little moron Maher whining about Putin and Trump being a “traitor” and Goodwin whining about empathy.

The day Maher is run over by a truck should be turned into a national holiday.

You can't be a person that says the most important thing is never to lose, that you always have to win.

So Prof. Goodwin, you don't want the President of the US winning always for America? You want a loser as President. You like losers? How long have you had these feelings of inadequacy? Can you describe what acts you take in self-deprecation and what you were feeling when you did these things? Did your daddy ignore you when you were a little girl?

She’s not quite PAST her expiration date yet but is sure crowding it. If those were her actual words/spelling, then she’s fading and maybe she’ll be gone before too long. You never know if that’s the real transcript or is someone just writing what they thought she said.

Trump's a businessman. He's lost plenty of times.

In fact, he lost major parts of his business. He was in negative net worth territory in the 1990's.
