What I'm about to say is flat out disgusting. If you just ate your breakfast, you may want to observe caution over the next 5 minutes. Now before I tell you this, keep one thing in mind: Republicans control all three branches of government.
Here we go. It's October, which means the fiscal year has officially ended, so that means the debt numbers are in. Brace yourselves for impact. The federal debt has increased by over $1.2 trillion. Total federal debt is now over $21 trillion and rising. The $1.2 trillion increase is the sixth largest debt increase... in the entire history of the United States.
This debt increase, again under republican control, is larger even than many of the years under the Obama administration. It's nearly the same as during 2011 and 2012, and larger than 2013, 2014 and 2015. If every single worker in the United States, roughly just over $155 million, donated $130,000 dollars it still wouldn't totally pay off the debt. But even if they did, at this rate, we'd be right back to where we started in under two years.
There are only two parties right now and neither stand for fiscal responsibility. How long are we going to continue to vote for people that clearly do not care about record amounts of debt? We're showing them that they can continue to behave in this manner without any consequence whatsoever. Democrats have successfully moved the window so far to the Left that the GOP - the FORMER party of fiscal accountability - seemingly sees no issue at all with an annual trillion plus dollar debt. It's now standard fare!
If it's this bad now, how much worse will it get next month if the "blue wave" occurs? Compound that even further if - God forbid - a Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris becomes president. The agenda the New Left wants to get done will cost over $40 trillion! We're already at record spending levels.
Democrats have slid so far to the Left, they have no intention of reigning this in. Republicans, likewise, refuse to do anything about it. A debt bubble explosion is primed to explode. It's no longer a question of if, but when.
I don’t take advice from Mormons anymore and particularly, nuts like Glen Beck.
Yeah, me neither.
Almost makes you want to cry, huh Glenn?
That was settled long ago. Just keep the scan going until I’m gone.
Glen Beck is an idiot.
Who gives a fig what cra cra Glenn says?
New rules. I dont care. I will vote R to get Trump more support. I will work to primary any RINO
I will not stay home. I will not do anything but work towards complete conservative control
“I dont take advice from Mormons anymore and particularly, nuts like Glen Beck.”
Sadly, he’s right. There is no force in DC today to bring spending under control. Who is going to cut Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare? Who is going to cut federal pensions? Welfare?
And, that leaves military spending which Obama already shamefully neglected to pump up Medicaid and payoffs to his public union supporters and government dependent supporters.
So we have to spend on the military but cannot cut anything else. Obama’s legacy is we are trapped in a deficit we have no political will to do anything about.
The only hope is sustained growth at a high rate and that interest rates don’t go through the roof. If they do, all bets are off—tax revenues plunge and interest service skyrockets. That’s Obama’s other legacy, we should be raising interest rates but to do so will be disastrous. So we cannot.
I’ve been pointing out for years that the evidence is that spendthrift Republicans are willing to go along with conservatives if they are in opposition to a Democrat in the White House.
But once there’s a Republican in the White House they feel their oats and start to spend freely, joining with the ever eager to spend Democrats.
Though the erosion of party discipline was already noted in 1998’s Not So Radical Republicans, Reason magazine ( https://reason.com/archives/1998/07/01/not-so-radical-republicans ), it wasn’t until W entered office that the moderates REALLY felt their oats. Indeed, they quickly understood that if Bush wanted any of his agenda he’d have to service them. And so began a veto free era that cumulated in 2006, after which the Democrats showed us what real spendthrift was like.
Still, the exact same moderates that voted for Part D voted in, IIRC, lockstep against Obamacare ... something only naked partisanship could accomplish. Under Obama the moderates again roped it in for partisan reasons.
With Trump I expected them to quickly start making demands and spending freely, but it seems the core of the never Trumpers were so opposed to The Donald that it took them nearly a year in some cases to realize it was a Republican in the White House.
The Democrats will love to help them spend. They know their base loves the spending and relatively few of the Republican base will be forgiving. Helping moderate Republicans spend is a win-win for Democrats.
Bush League Republicans must become extinct before the Republic does.
It’s the spending. We are taxed enough.
It’s been going up that much or more every year for the last 10 years. This year’s result is year one for Trump. I think I’ll wait and see what happens.
I think that the massive growth coming up, for years, will start to pay down the debt. It’s only been 2 years, and Trump HAD to get some things taken care of first - like rebuilding the military. Honestly, with record breaking growth, less people on handouts, less people on food stamps, and more and more revenue from business expansion and people working, and the debt will get tackled.
That’s my hope.
Never has been since the 1920s after the 19th amendment.
A guy who is suppose to be an 'expert' in political analysis and he couldn't see how great Trump was and preferred Hillary to be elected!
False statement.
Tell me: what statement or statements in that article are false?
I’m not going to address the core of Beck’s argument.
However, I am really annoyed with the misuse of the word “officially”, when the speaker means “truly” or “completely”.
2017 was still Obama’s budget passed in 2016. 2018 is year one of Trump.
I agree with you. The improving economy will generate a lot of tax revenue.
